Title: To the person who bought.....
Post by: stevesredvxr on February 27, 2012, 01:49 PM
.......my stem out of the for sale section and then stuck it on eBay the day it
landed at your house by special delivery, after knocking me down on price via pm, hope you are
happy with your 45 quid profit.

Well done and thanks for your input to this wonderful website.

Often wondered about peoples reasoning behind buying parts. I never buy parts i dont want unless i see something that's a silly bargain but i wouldn't dream of doing it on here. Community spirit and all that  :daumenhoch:

it is good when they shafted on ebay though, if its been a while since they bought it fair do's or even offer it back to person they bought it off 1st, or even split the profit made (which I have done in the past) 2 spring to mind that have done it to me in the past..you know who you are :knuppel2: ^"^

Again not saying owt, but black Power stem, polished stem, E.T. padset, MX calipers and so on in completed listings..........

I'm not by any means saying it's right (as I wouldn't do the same myself and have had this done to me on these forums) but I guess it comes down to if you've bought an item here you own it and can flip it if you want. Again, I'm not saying that's a nice/right thing to do :)

Bad that he did it, if it was on purpose, but maybe it wasn't right in the end, so he put it on eBay and it just went to that much?

I must admit i,ve never ever bought anything bmx related with the intension of selling it for more money  :-\
Made a few quid on stuff i,ve had tucked away in the garage for years , thats inflation isn't it  :LolLolLolLol:
But to buy something to want to sell it straight away seems mental  :idiot2:

Bit like MK ,a few random unknown blokes turn up and buy shit loads of cheap stuff off Jai , ramdom stuff ,just to sell on again  :-\

Never builds any bikes?...  ???

Post by: punkdSICO on February 27, 2012, 05:33 PM
Yeah, this is a tough one.  I think we all like to think that we sell our stuff at a good price, almost mate's-rates.  So, if someone deliberately profits from this: bad form!!

However, if you accidently profit from this, it can not be helped.  Im sure most of us serial buyers have a story of buying something in here for a good price, then realising months later that we dont need it and whacking it on ebay only to be surprised at what it feteched..  I always try to bring the love back into RAD but sometimes you have reason to use ebay as maybe you have no idea what something is worth so you throw it to the dogs.

But hey, we all know good form verses bad..

Hugs,

Paul

Post by: pickle on February 27, 2012, 05:35 PM
it's a shyte thing to do but to be honest, if you sell your stuff on here and are happy with the price you got then what someone does with it afterwards doesn't really matter.

bad form to make a habbit of it though and not something i would consider doing.
Title: Re: To the person who bought.....
Post by: Badbaldie on February 27, 2012, 05:35 PM
proper out of order i say..... to buy of a radster and kick him in the stones with a price just to sell on ebay for profit  :tickedoff:...  if you buy of a radster then change direction with your build surely its the done thing to offer it back on here FIRST , then if it dont sell, then  ebay is your SECOND option  :daumenhoch:
Title: Re: To the person who bought.....
Post by: WINI on February 27, 2012, 05:38 PM
Surely there's a way that the mods can track username changes?  Personally, I wouldn't sell to him on here even if I really needed the sale, but if I don't know the username how can I make that choice?  Same goes for one or two other messers that pop up here and elsewhere from time to time.

Not that I hold a grudge much..... >:D

Poor form that.

I guess it's the unwritten rule that we at RAD like to think members can abide by - not shitting on members

we try to help each other out and see this as a big family - if members like this guy think they can make a profit out of us then that is not on

if a member bought a part and then thought that it didn't fit the build, then he could put it on ebay a couple of weeks later to see what he will get - we all have the chance to use ebay or try and sell on here first ~ but buying on here after trying to knock them down just to put it on ebay right away is a big NO NO  :knuppel2:

shame on that member - cover blown and never trusted again  :crazy2:

I'm not going to name him personally........people have done their own detective work and can draw their own conclusions as to wether to deal with him.

It just annoyed me as this seemed blatant.

I did pm the member immediately when I saw the ebay listing to say I was dissapointed that he had done so, but no reply.

just a little bit in his defence he could have quite easily lost money on that stem if it didnt meet his purchase price....

Guys, it's a shyte thing to do....yes.  would i do it?  no.  But you all know his username so don't do any deals with him anymore.

you'll be wanting us to tie him to a stool and dunk him in the Thames soon.

He bought something that the seller was happy to sell and he was happy to buy.........after that it's his to do with what he wants........i'm not saying it's a nice thing to do or the right thing to do but just don't deal with anymore  :daumenhoch:

But you all know his username so don't do any deals with him anymore.

In fact he's changed his username a few times by the looks of it, and was already "outed" over the MX1000s, so it's not always obvious to other RADsters.
Title: Re: To the person who bought.....
Post by: pickle on February 28, 2012, 08:48 AM
Yes he's changed it but what can we do about that?  He could also join under another name which loads of people do.

He's not the first and he won't be the last person to do it.  How many 'off white' elina lightening bolt seats got sold for a huge profit after MK last year when Jai sold them for £20 or something?  It's no different really.

Title: Re: To the person who bought.....

I wasn't happy with with the price I sold it for to be honest Pickle.
But thinking it would help out a fellow radster be a step closer to finishing his off his build was
worth more to me than a few quid.
To know that he was blatantly trying to make money out of me is the annoying thing.

I have given parts away for free on here to help other people but that was a kick in the balls.

Always been fair on here I just hoped people would be fair back.

Title: Re: To the person who bought.....

I see what you're saying and yes the guys a prize cynt, but i've put the original thread link in the messers thread so people can see what his latest name is.

I guess we could take away his SST but it will go at the end of March anyway and we can make sure he doesn't get another.  Then i guess it's up to people if they deal with a non SST for sales?

Not sure there's anyway around this problem unless you only to sell to mates or put the stuff on eBay yourself.  Once the item has been sold it's up to it's new owner what he does with it after that.

Not saying I agree with the guy in question's morals but it's hardly a new problem.

Same with selling complete bikes.  Everyone knows they're worth a fair bit more when split - if you don't want to do this, that's your call but it's entirely at the discretion of the new owner what he does with his purchase...

Totally agree to a point  :daumenhoch:

Think the issue here as much as anything was the time scale involved and more to the point the guy knocked Steve down in price saying he needed it to complete a build and then within a few hours it was on ebay  ::)  >:(

The guy does have history though ....... Carl and Andy sussed him months ago over the MX1000's  ;). Maybe we should have a for sale price for genuine RADsters and one for 'freestyle BMX' / 'back in the day ' / speight etc etc .

example

Dia Compe MX1000 in Red

Genuine RADster price £ 75
'Freestyle BMX' price  £175    :D ;)

If were all totally honest everyone of us has made money on sales and lost money on some too  :D .

For example ..

If you wanted a set of 901's in Blue that were up for £90 and you had some in Red that you had bought for £35 what are you meant to do ... sell yours for £35 because its the 'done thing' or sell yours for £90 to fund the Blue set because that is the 'going rate' :-\

See Steve I told you in the thread i could have stretched to £20 in installments  ::)  ;D
Title: Re: To the person who bought.....
Post by: stidds on February 28, 2012, 12:16 PM
I honestly cannot see any problem here, yes I understand the timescale part, but if I pay somebody money for an item (whether it is BMX or other), then once I pay for it that item is mine to do with it how I see fit.

If somebody does as the buyer did then in the future don't buy or sell to him, simple as that really.

I don't know how it was all those years ago, but nearly everyone I've dealt with or met via Rad since I joined has been a good egg

Never paid towards the upkeep of any other site, but considering the effort that goes into keeping it running (without spam) and the fact that MK is put on as a free event for anyone to attend it's pretty good value - even if it does fall over a bit  ;D

Agree with Sean et al that if someone buys something at a price the seller is happy with then it's their property to do with as they see fit, seller can always say no to an offer or put a listing on abay themselves if they want to risk it.
There are people who will cut a fellow radster a nice deal - I've had stuff cheap and sometimes even FREE and it's nice to think that this is reciprocated sometimes. Jai's stall at MK last year is a perfect example of this, even though he sells to anyone whether they support the site or not

Maybe peeps should sell to only people that are going to use the item on a build.  :idiot2:

Isn't going to happen is it. He paid his money , he made his choice. He can do what he wants with it. He has to pay the fees and get off his ass to post it. Whats wrong with earning a few quid?

It does make me mad when i look at old posts on here and see what people bought a few years back and now see what they sell for. There is no morals. Everyone is on the take wether you like it or not.

My little tenpenceworth. :D

That why I don't but or sell on here no more
Or buy a tag:) rad not the same as it was:(

 ::)  Sad imo

There's loads of genuine top lads on here and good deals happen all the time  :daumenhoch:

I take it you won't be going to MK either  ???  as that is partly what your site supporter tag pays for ! . MK is a free event afterall .

From a personal point of view i have never had an issue with any sale or with anything i have bought , speaks volumes surely .

Why should there be morals involved? Nether knew each other personally.

Problem here is that the two parties involved in the transaction had two separate agenda's. One was looking to sell a part and the other to profit. Should he just hand over half of the profit then?

Would you show any morals if you found a Haro Gen 1 on ebay for a £10 buy it now listed by a naive seller? EXACTLY. :daumenhoch:

No one got hurt and the seller got paid. Job done.

He obviously feels as if he’s done wrong by changing his user name and if he did give the “I need it for a build” story then that is out of order to sell it a day or so later

However its now his and can do what he wants with it, yes “we” are a community and we do sell something’s at mates rates but people now know who he is and its there choice if they sell to him.

I’ve had situations where I’ve stuck things on Ebay because I didn’t know the going rate and they’ve gone way past what I paid for them and I know that situation is different to what’s happened here and by the same token I’ve also given stuff away and been given stuff because that’s what you do with your mates just like when we were kids we swapped stuff.

He’s been caught out (again) so he knows his card is marked  :police:

There are people on here that also try the same trick but I just don’t buy off em….. :police:

Have you ever tried to sell to Spen FFS not only to you end up giving him the stuff for free but it also costs you at least £20 to walk away…….and then you’ll end up buying something off him………………….its like going to see Albert Arkwright in open all hours !!!!!! :uglystupid2:

What's wrong with earning a few extra quid???

Bollocks....go and get a decent job or work an hours overtime if you need an extra few quid. Don't make a few extra quid at another members expense.

It's about morals....and the lack of them.

It's wrong when biaggio rapes MK and then puts it all on another website for profit and it's wrong when a member does it on here. No difference in my eyes.

No such thing as a bmx community. Just wont happen when you are dealing with money and expensive items that fluctuate in price.

If its a community then maybe someone would spare me a set of Aerospeeds for a few months. I would give them back i promise.

I would suggest that you inflate your parts by 25% when you sell them on here. You wont get stung then. Being a community member bit you on the ass my old mate.

Honestly i wouldn't worry about it. You got your money. If he conned you by telling you it was for a build then that is sneaky and that may be his downfall.

Missed the point…..  :-\

I mean picking parts up for people because your in the area and dropping them off at the next meet up

Going round to some ones house to help them lace up a wheel because they want to finish a build

I know of people who have lent expensive stuff to others until they find there own.

When I first started racing Moley use to lend me his spare bike (a sweet redline) and I only knew the guy via messages on here.

I’ve given people stuff not asking for a penny because I know that when I need something off someone the favor will come back.

Same as when I knackered my shoulder in two members off here sat with me in Blackpool A&E until the small hours of the morning……why because that’s what we do

I would lend most people on here anything and if they asked if I could pick something up and I was in the area I would.

I think we've got a great community here on RAD. You only get out what you put in.  I've met some great people on here and was made to feel welcome from the start. The London rides are great fun and MK is a real highlight. We all feel passionately about BMX and that's why being stiffed by some members gets such a reaction.

Long live the RAD community  :daumenhoch:

Theres a factor in this hobby that will always leave the door ajar for major manipulation of costs and values. The main attraction of what we do is the process of sourcing, buying and building these bikes. Thats the reason that complete bikes dont sell, its like taking the fun out of it. Live by the rule that something is worth what somebody else will pay for it and if you want a huge audience and a big price, use ebay. If you want to circulate stuff in the community and help your brothers, its likely to fetch less money. This will always go on and in some cases its completely genuine that peoples plans change or as in my case in the last few years, i sold a chunk of my collection to pay for a website that is now up and running. My choice to do so and its money re invested into the scene in a round about way.

A friend of mine sold a 'well known' BMX saddle on ebay which was won by member asa.golfs. The seat sold for £40.

Ebay member asa.golfs then stuck the seat back on ebay at a buy it now price of £75 plus the postage cost within minutes of the purchase from my friend. He hadn't even paid my mate for it and was already selling it.

Needless to say it sold at that price as there is a huge following of members to this guy for some reason :uglystupid2:

Title: Re: To the person who bought.....

My take for what its worth:

RAD is a community - That means (or should) that you join Rad to join a community of like minded people, in this case old school bmx / cycling / racing / freestyle etc.

Those who come in here purely looking to deal are abusing the system as Rad was originally set up not as a sale and trading forum, this is a bi-product that relies on good faith between friends.

Ebay however was - ebay as such is a business

Radbmx is a forum for friendship and knowledge
Title: Re: To the person who bought.....
Post by: diesel on February 28, 2012, 03:41 PM
So the big question is.....

Should I as a member be allowed to profit for a purchase?

I guess that all depends - I have profited from purchases here in the past

However I don't think that I have ever intentionally bought something to immediately re-sell from Radbmx, I've bought stuff that at a later date I have decided not to use and sold. I have also watched stuff not selling and bought it with the intention of holding it until it is worth something. (this might be one or two years) In my mind that is investing - some may see this differently. I like to have some of my money tied up in old bike parts than sitting in the bank.

I have also bought stuff from eBay a moved it along immediately  - that to me is the business side of vintage bmx - one good score from ebay could allow me to complete a build, and as such I have both lost and won on eBay.

I think what I'm really trying to say is that a good community such a Rad relies on an amount of morality. This is a good community and in general people are good.

Just a few bad ones who are only here for the money

Loads do it. I don't sell cheap anymore unless I really Know you need it and actually know you. I've had so much stuff flipped. Some people took it too far though. Daz Bmx begged me to drop the price on some rims, really needed them for a build he said. So I capitulated and sold at a reduced price, only for him to add some cheap hubs and ask more or less three times as much.
Now I sell for the going rate, no reductions. If it don't sell it don't sell.
Too many grabbing wankèrs, you want to make a profit, pay my price first then I don't give a toss. As long as I get what I want.
Same with that bloke who bought my hutch. Whined it was the wrong size, claimed they are worth 180 tops in that size, got some money back, then powders it black and want £300 quid for it. The guy shill bids every auction he does.
Uses the same account to shill bid and doesn't care that he rips radsters off. Scumbag waster.

im really really very new to this site, there seems to be some really good friendships and some excellent banter between you guys, ive spent hours looking at your bikes in photo section and the workmanship is first class,i imagine a lot of these builds are down to the for sale section on this site. The prices you guys charge each other are amazing compared to auction sites, its a shame and must be disaappointing if someone takes advantage of this to make a profit,as i see it people only sell here to help others build there dream bikes(from when most of us were younger and had hair!!!!!!!!!!)buy only to use on builds or post it again for what you paid.

I think we can all buy parts from a member on here and sell it at later date ~ maybe for more ~ some times not

some times we sell at mates rates - some members are just real nice and like to help out other members if they ask nicely

but the point here is some one is just buying stuff purely for profit and doesn't care how it looks ~ this has now been shown in this thread

we are a community - we are here for the love of bmx - we do enjoy talking to other members about it - we do meet up and enjoy the time with bmx's

not every one is going to get along all the time - but if you come on here with one purpose of milking the scene that we enjoy, of course we are gonna get pissed off

People often refer to the words 'community' and 'like minded individuals' yet I read threads on here that go completely against these. We're all entitled to our own opinions, build perceptions of individuals but somehow I feel a gentle PM to a Moderator about any issue would be a lot more beneficial before we start banging our keyboard in anger. :daumenhoch:

I'm sure these types of theads, although making us aware of a situation or deal that has turned sour for one reason of another doesn't exactly promote a 'community' spirit or demonstrate RAD in good light.

It's interesting how many have seen this going on but seem to use oportunistic moments to jump on the bandwagon after the horse has bolted.

Well according to todays Metro the horse got stuck in the mud...!  :D

Seeing a bunch of people looking out for each other and publicly discussing what they believe is right and wrong is exactly what a community does
Not everyone has exactly the same view and as you pointed out yourself, everyone is entitled to their own opinion

Agree in part with what you said in that there's sometimes a bit of bandwagon-jumping, but usually on here if someone steps up and defends their actions calm is restored and at least people new to the site can be warned of potential messers. Expecting that it's all done via secret PMs to mods puts the onus on them to police the actions of everyone, which apart from being an unfair expectation of the mods would i'm sure be a right royal pain in the arse

Any newbies reading this thread will realise that we do get pissed off if they come here just to feed off of what we enjoy and love

we may all be different and we may all be in to bmx but we do hate fakers and the leeches coming on here and spoiling it for all  :knuppel2:

What the guy did is totally wrong IMO.  He was obviously in it for the profit and nothing else by the sound of it.  That said, I think the electric chair is a little too far, although a behind the scenes PM debate doesn't help the vast majority of decent people on here who may want to be informed of his usual behaviour and chose not to sell anything to him.

Me for one.
