Dragonfly DFX. My lad has a flatland Dragonfly Submachine and this makes a nice addition to the family
Not paid a lot for this so hoping the pics arent telling lies, wheelset looks to have SUN stickers, forks have peg bosses [maybe 1 1/8 ditchforks???]
The DFX was available as a frame only and was pretty expensive from the little info i can find on them
(http://www.radbmx.co.uk/archive/albums/aa130/CUINHELLJAYMZ/KGrHqNHJ0E8e7WbRnkBPLtK8BNwQ60_12.jpg)
anyone have anymore info on these it will be appreciated
-
very nice indeed 8), i remember a mate that had one when they came up cost a fair amount too, ive just had a result tonight as well but via gumtree on a 1998 swchinn automatic joey garcia for 30 squid with all xs parts still on it inc tyres 8)
-
Dragonfly DFX - think these came out mid 1999 (although were out in Germany as proto's for a year before) and ran (in that from at least) till 2003ish :)
OG retail frame only: £160 - later you could buy completes that were around the £650 mark.
Full 4130, built in gyro tabs, 21.25" TT, 14 - 15" rear triangle, shaved rear drops (go from 8mm to 4mm).
Nice :daumenhoch:
Your serial No. will tell ya what year yours is - I reckon a '99- 2000 though :)
-
Its up the road from retrodan so he's on pick up and pack duties for me!!!!!
Just got this nugget from BMX Museum
"In 1997 the DFX was one of the first BMX frames to use double butted tubing and a forged crmo dropout, allowing for the first successful use of a built in chain tensioner. "
anyone got RIDE issue 40 - april may 1999 frame review in there

ha ha is there a digi copy anywhere fella

Hang on.......
-
a member subversion had a sweet blue one, with the same forks, so what are they??
-
They could be from the later completes (which I'd have to go on a trawl to find some piccies - if I get the chance I'll up some) - here's the mid '99 scan:
-
Im pretty sure dragon fly made a fork similar to a ditch forks with peg bosses.
-
nice one danny, the decals match the one ive bought, so hopefully its an early one. as ive noticed there are variations on the ones ive found on the net and the decals may be a giveaway as to the age, a 2005 one on bmxmuseum has different down tube decals
-
Mattfx81's right - Dragonfly forks on subversion's pic posted by Jaymz are dragonfly "mosher" forks - I have a pair here in 1" threadless version with the same decals.
They changed the stickers up a bit later on but the fork bosses look the same on the forks on the dfx ride in the top pic?
You sometimes see newer mosher forks up for grabs on ebay but they have no peg bosses, nor brake lugs.
Brian :daumenhoch:
-
i had set of dragon mosher forks man they were heavy as fook
-
;D they're the ones I have now Greg.

Brian :daumenhoch:
yep heavy as must weight about 4 lbs just for forks#
-
:) Someone told me Mankind bikes is a later incarnation of Dragonfly.Any truth in it?
-
Cheers for the info on the forks fellas, finding it hard to find out info on dragonfly, they dont seem all that popular and now I have two of them
-
I'll have a rattle through me Rides fella and see if I can find you more info.
The only schizz I can see online is 23Mag:

Ive been eyeing up the 39t DF Turbine sprocket they have on there now for £8, as GFX has one that is DNA or has DNA stackers on it
-
I got a double dynamite here :daumenhoch:
got some pics of it on here somewhere.
taking it up to get powdered white at the end of the month - it's the dull chrome version. have some pics of it on the museum with black tuffs on.
Also had a minty dragonfly MC but it went across the atlantic last year to pay a few bills. probably gonna regret that sale... :(
Brian :daumenhoch:

;D ;D
probably! username Brian4130?
When does your DFX land? Or is it with you already?
Brian :daumenhoch:
-
The submachine and dfx are both well nice too.
I really like the look of the submachine.
And it looks like the dfx has the same dropouts as the double dynamite and mc.
All their stuff I have seen has been real well made, and they haven't made too many of them so they're hard to find.
And well under rated in my opinion.
Brian :daumenhoch:
-
:) Someone told me Mankind bikes is a later incarnation of Dragonfly.Any truth in it?
Hey James,
Christophe Huber runs Mankind, and he used to work at Dragonfly.
And Dragonfly used to do a frame called the "mankind"... bit of a link there in that sense.
Dunno if it goes any deeper than that though ???

Gotta agreee the workmanship is second to none, my lads submachine is ally and the welds are a thing of beauty. the GFX came with two styles of dropouts one like the DD and MC the other came with integrated chain tensioners from what ive read, I think mines too early for the chain tensioners though
-
Very nice, what you gonna do with this?
-
Very nice, what you gonna do with this?
Hammer it into the ground and ride like hell!!!!! Not too sure yet, was a bit of an impulse buy and it swayed by the fact I knew Dan was just up the road from it for a pick up and pack!!!! Might just sit on it a while and wait for the value to go up!!!

They're nice frames those :daumenhoch: a few riders round My old hometown swore by them at the time, only problem was the chainstays used to get mangled as they sat a lot lower than the axle line. They were done in a variety of toptube sizes, I remember a short 19" in a fetching shade of shite Brown!

proper pleased, thy are straight and unmarked, it just looks like the bike has been covered in dirt and left and never ridden again, the pedals and seat are the worst, the rest is a bit of elbow grease and coke and tinfoil!!
You stil want the sprocket? I have to say it looked shit on the pics, but its beautifully CNC'd in real life.
Saddle and brake lever to source now, after some cleaning
@Betty, yes indeed, barely worn, mint sidewalls, chuffed :)
-
:daumenhoch:
Chuffed that it's better than expected :)
Deffo still have the sprocket fella - v good of you :4_17_5: Will sort you out with a nice black one :daumenhoch:
-

Like my Old School seat post height and bar position settings on your first pic Jaymz, , good job I took my allen keys or I wouldn't have been able to ride the fooker, and I had a 3.5 mile journey.
:buck2:
Once i'd messed about with it and put some wind in the tyres, I let rip but the knackered pedal was putting me off going too mad. ::)
Glad you're happy with it, a cheap bike too. :daumenhoch:

-
Had a very quick roll around on this tonight, and its just lovely, swet geomtry, feels very long, but a lovely balance to it

Not many posts on here referencing Dragonflys, especially Double Dynamites, so apologies for posting on a long dead thread BUT if anyone has one so I can rebuild my favourite bike please let me know!
-
The dd is rocking horse poop. My dfx frame and forks maybe up for grabs soon though.
