Title: Haro Freestyler
Post by: oldskooldayz on September 19, 2011, 12:05 PM
Right so i wanted one of these new skool freestylers as i wanted to see one in the flesh and see what could be done to it to make a new skool old skool retro ride

so i have dragged a few pics of the net of how they came from the factory and the others are of the progress i have made in converting it across

now its a long way off the finished product but im likeing it so far and this is just a taster to see what people think of it
im sure to a lot of you this will be a pile of you know what but given some attention you can teach a new dog some old tricks

after all these years....

i still dont know how you can call that fooking thing a "haro freestyler"

its an insult to the original,

mild steel frame?

its a fooking joke.

"haro" knew full well that there are complete mugs out there that will buy anything with a few old stickers on it,,

and there are.

why do people leave neg comments when they for 1 have probably never seen 1 in the flesh and 2 never rode 1  :-\
I personally think they ride really nice and albeit yes might be a steel frame but they are not that heavy
also either strip the post and polish to get it in or as it's fluted strip the outside ridges and polish and leave the candy blue on the inside like i did on the retro ripper below  :daumenhoch:

I think on The Museum, there is sticky about changing the 1 1/8 stem set into a 1"  :daumenhoch: That would defo be one way to go IMO but looking sweet though  :daumenhoch:

Change out the bars to original Master bars, change out the front brake to a Nippon and should almost be there  :coolsmiley:

Keep it going bro  :daumenhoch:

why do people leave neg comments when they for 1 have probably never seen 1 in the flesh and 2 never rode 1  :-\

i dont need to see one "in the flesh" tbh, just looking at the cheap, bubblegum welds and knowing the frame is made from mild steel is enough,

haro had every opportunity to make this a compliment to the old school, instead they went for the cheapest option and an insult to the old freestyler/masters,

if they'd had them made from 4130 and built by a decent manufacturer i'd have wished them well and been impressed, even "SE racing" made a better job of their "retro" bikes,

tell you what, ride it hard for a few weeks and when it cracks/snaps post up some pics,

admit it, its made entirely for "looking at" and not any kind of bmx riding,

all it does is scream "i cant afford/cant be bothered to build/restore and old school bike"

i stand by what i said before and when they released them, its an insult to the old school.

Calm down fella I think you need a chill pill

It doesn't scream can't afford a real one at all and I had a real one and a master an a fst oh and a sport
Yep it's not like you say quality material like the original or many old skool bikes and yes they did get it wrong that way but it's lush to ride and yep it probably will crack if ridden or tricked out like the real deal but even the originals broke when ridden hard

It looks nice to me and to a lot of others it rides nice and you can pull a wheely along with a few bunny hops an endo's
And it doesn't break the bank like the 1400 quid real deal

Has this hobby become snobby

So what about all the copy gen1's then are they ok because they are skool

It's only a puppet  ;)
Title: Re: Haro Freestyler
Post by: HARORIDER on September 20, 2011, 03:46 PM
the trouble is,is that if haro did make it "exactly" the same as the old school one then it probably would have snapped ask anyone that owns one or used to ride one back in the day and logically thinking most of the people that would buy one of these would be us old fookers who are not going to be getting 18ft out of a half pipe anymore  :'(  thats why haro have a range of new school bikes aimed at the youngsters that are built and made to ride like that  :daumenhoch:

fook it,i like it!nu-skool geometry with old school looks!bit like having a beetle with a subaru engine.Shame its not made of 4130,but lets face it,its marketed at old fookers like us who probably wont be riding it in that much anger.its probably no weaker than an original.

Green tyres are bad enough but you get away with them because of the highlights in the graphics but yellow seriously?

Totally agree with Kappy, who cares if your brake cables are from the wrong era or your Kashi is a repop etc etc.

You build a bike how you want it to look and ride with the budget you have...easy,
then ride the fook out of it, take it out on the rides and have a blast. ;) :daumenhoch:

Thanks for the comments chaps

I could have made it super minto but really wasn't bothered
I was worried to ride the original gen 1 I had for fear of damaging it where as this can be used n abused
To a degree but will probably break  :LolLolLolLol:

For some strange reason I like the faded painted tuffs and the yellow seat on it, it feels old and gives it a bit of personality even if the seat is crap
