It's doing my head in ;D
It was one of those 'unexpected builds' which no doubt should probably be expected.
Third Tange bought, first one built and it's not even for me, it's for the misses. It's all gone horribly wrong somewhere
:idiot2:
Got to love her, after looking at the Kuwie ET poster for a while she goes 'can you explain something to me, what's going on here?' - pointing to the 1PC.
I thought YES she's finally been worn down so I decided to do this for her with the simple view of self preservation for the future
;D ;)
Anyway this is it: 1982 Peugeot CPX 500 with Tange Mangaloy Tubes.
Limited run, available for one year with this boomerang style gusset (from 1983 it had the Peugeot logo on the head-tube gusset).
Euro BB is unique to this model but it's similar in geometry to the Tange Hattori Pro Sight made for the Australian market.
It had a decent factory spec made up of Jap parts: Tange, Takagi, Nitto, Araya.
Although it's a custom build I've tired to keep it Jap flavoured. Built with restored OG / Mint & NOS Parts.

A massive thanks goes out to Woody for keeping me in the loop and helping with the deal on this :4_17_5:
Top pic is how it arrived but surprisingly it was in pretty good shape. Extremely clean drop-outs and that finish under the red anno
There's a few signs of wear & tear and some kid somewhere in Europe scratched his postcode on the seat tube.
I guess it must have been loved by someone. I must admit I've developed a bit of a soft spot for it - maybe the misses doesn't really need it.
I'll try to get some updated pics done today but I'm still waiting on a few parts to finish it.
Pedals and tyres are on the way so I'll just be needing a chain and valve caps :)
Oh yeah and some Black or Silver Takagi Crank Caps - If anyone can help :daumenhoch:
-
Took some pics today from the sunny spot in the 'tree house' ::)
The red in the decals and post is essentially a nod to it's original colour scheme. The peds will be NOS Gold MKS BM-10 (it originally came with MKS 7/10 not sure which).
Still work in progress but I'm happy with it so far - can't wait to see what the new tyres look like.

Looks great :coolsmiley:
-
Very nice :daumenhoch:
I like the parts used,a bit different :)
-
Thanks lads. I should have given it a bit of a clean before I took the pics, it's still got water marks on where I applied the decals :-[
The misses isn't keen on the SR post so there might be a couple of small changes down the line.
I'm just itching to have a roll up and down the sea-front on it 8)
All feedback is much appreciated :daumenhoch:

WOODY 8)
-
So you kept it ?
Looks damn good, although a CPX 500 MUST be red!!!!
Good job on the decals
-
Sorry Christian but the stem will be staying. It's one piece I'm really happy with.
A lovely little thing - Nitto MX-8
Thanks to wazza over on BW for that :daumenhoch:
There's so many guys I respect on here at how well they put bikes together so to have such kind words from them really does means a lot.
I've been bloody watching you guys for long enough it's about time I built something. Hopefully the next two will soon be done as well :)
Arnaud: I know what you mean about being Red but beauty isn't only skin deep.
I also know how you French lads feel about these so I hope I've maintained it's spirit at least ;)
-
lovely chrome very nice, good move with the tyres if its a rider
-
Looking nice Paul have you tried a gold chainring on her I think that might look sweet :daumenhoch:
Great job
-
very nice indeed, like that a lot :daumenhoch:
-
Thanks Pete, the chrome is awesome. It seems to be colder looking up against my other chrome frame (if that makes sense)
Might be something to do with the composition of the mangaloy.
The tyres are being replaced with some vintage rubber but I think I'll be riding all my builds TBH 8)
I'll definitely be having a look at a gold ring on it Bret (that's the bike not the misses) ;)
Maybe I should have held off detailing the Tourney Crank for a while though.

Like that ;)
-
Very nice build, I like these obscure Tange frames.
It looks like one of those Tange Hot Hearts like the one in the tange/tioga/takagi thread (that I can never find) but the gussett looks a bit different (obviously not the one with the heart in it! :coolsmiley:. Can anyone confirm it as Ive never seen one (but would kill for one! ;))
-
I know what your mean - The Hot Heart (Mk1) / Shimano 5000 are very similar looking frames 8)
There were two versions of these with different backends & drop outs (Classic Tange / Kuwie x3 Hole & Giant - triangle hole with small chain tensioner hole)
I think the geometry must be pretty much the same as the Giant DO version but the Pug has a slightly different boomerang gusset (shorter top edge).
It's closer to some of the Pro Sights in Oz but none of these others had a Euro BB & I don't think Tange Mangaloy tubes were used on them ???
There's a couple of really good threads here:
Tange Hot Heart / Shimano 5000: http://www.ozbmx.com.au/index.php'showtopic=16957
Hattori Pro Sight: http://www.ozbmx.com.au/index.php'showtopic=23868
Got the Peds today - Still sealed in their little bags :)
-
I really like that Paul....glad to see it nearly finished dude :daumenhoch:...have to get to the next roll around then dude and we can be the Pug boys :D :daumenhoch:
-

Only if we both go dressed as onion sellers :)
-
Hey Paul,
after our last deal I knew that you had "slightly different taste" >:D , but now I knew you´re a
Tange lover :bondage: This is a great build with the clean oldskool look that I love.
Congratulations my friend!
Alfredo
-
Hey, thanks man. Good to hear from you Alfredo :daumenhoch:
I've got big plans for that old frame of yours. Got one or two parts for it already.
As for "slightly different taste" does that refer to my liking for Jap BMX or sweet German beer?
I also know Tange has a slightly different meaning in Germany  ;D
-
Like that looks great!
-
:4_17_5: vnice like what you've done , nice touch with the decals, know very little about Peugeot's i assume this was the higher end model
-
Peds landed today. Box fresh 8)
Tried out a couple different chainrings as well but think I'll stick with the black TBH.
The thing is the wheels have to stay so the black hubs and spokes make more sense.
Anyway see what you think:
