Title: z-rim question
Post by: rollin72 on January 24, 2011, 09:31 PM
ive just got a white z-rim that is totally different than any other ive seen before, there is no acs z-rim  or made in england/pat pending stamped on the rim, the brake surface is rough, the rim width is about 2/3mm smaller than a regular one and the centre of the rim has a seam and is shaped rather than flat, the material is the same and bends like dubber in digglers van :D
can anyone shed some light on it please

nice1 gaz :daumenhoch:

Is it definitely a Z-rim?  I looked at a post on here the other day and there was a bike which had Z-rim copies on it.  :-\

I had a set of non-stamped white Z-type rims and after some research I came to the conclusion they were Meteorite or some other copies....

Every other genuine set I could find anything about were stamped....

I sold them to Swivel on here last year....

cant get a good enough pic to show the differences, plus they're in a tub of bleach...in the shed not in my dining room :D

anybody got anymore info, i was talking to crazycraig the other night and he said that z-rims pre 82/83 wern't stamped, but also said there were copies he called whalebones
ive never seen either of these ???

I searched and searched for more info on the 'unstamped' ones and I cam to the conclusion that they
were either copies or a myth....

Everyone I asked in the US said they were all stamped and that the earliest ones had the PAT PENDING on them...

These had the small chrome decal and no logo on the sidewall...They are supposedly stiffer than the later ones....

Most should also have a date stamped (or written on later ones) on the inside of the rim where the spoke holes are....
