V-BRAKE SET-UP TIPS?
« on: November 30, 2009, 02:01 PM »
:) I`m running a DXR setup with a linear slic cable.Whenever I pull the lever ,only the right side arm pulls to the rim.The leftside (noodle side) does nothing.Everything is lubed properly, but I still can`t get it working .... :-[

have you tried adjusting the springs ?

Bend the springs out a bit to get a bit more 'spring' and then adjust the screws to move the non moving side away from the rim.

Sounds like spring tension, Is one side wound all the way in. I normally feel both sides by pushing them towards the rim to make sure the tension feels equal, Do this without the cable connected..
Hope that makes sense

:) Cheers,I`ll try the spring bending thing.I`d tried the adjuster screws without any success.Don`t rate the DXR very highly TBH,looks like a Deore with a new name & bigger price..

I was always told not to bend the springs as it actually weakens them. On the mount there is normally 3 holes to help spring tension, Sure you haven't put one side in a different hole? And hence making that side very stiff?

James,

Take it off and clean the posts, lube lightly with some grease and put the brake back on with the locating pins in the MIDDLE hole of the 3 on your frame, adjust the pads then put the cable in, you can get even tension by either bending the springs OR using the adjustment screws to add more tension to the looser side or slacken off tension on the springier side

Hope this helps?
