What do you consider a reasonable price?

I recently bought a 661 evolution carbon for £99. they usually retail for £150-£200 so I thought that was a bargain price!

It's really comfortable and very light unlike the £60-70 options I was looking at!

It was more than I wanted to spend, but well worth it when you consider the price of teeth/brains these days ;)

I picked up a used 661 from evilbay for £26. Seems really nice and lighter than the fullface helmets available BiTD.  I've not had chance to crash test it yet though!
I'm planning to have a wobble round Bradford on Saturday so it might get some use...

I got a nearly new MX lid off fleecebay. Bargain at £16. New was about £120.Its not heavy. I've also crash tested it and I'm glad i had a ff rather than a potty. Even then I was ill with headaches and dizzyness for a week. The other week a kid at creation did a double whip and crashed but his bike bounced up and hit him in the face. Good job he had a 661 full face on.

They are a bit lightweight and I find they are a small fit- a medium on other lids is ok but tight on a bell bellistic. Have you thought about a Giro remedy.Light, fit well and look ok.

I've got one of thesehttp://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx'modelID=24918 in white effing brill for the money. Used in morzine and at afan for MTB, great lid. White keeps you cooler the heat of the summer in Morzine..
Now I have a size 56-58 model in white that I bought which was too small for my massive bonce and forgot to send back in time (went on holiday honest) you can have it for £30 delivered, its brand new in the box.

Whatever you decide to go for Ed, you have to try it on!

I was originally going to go for the 661 full comp or bell ballistic but when I found a shop that sold them and tried them on it became clear that neither of them would work for me and my stupid shaped mellon :-[

went upstairs and tried the evolution, the difference was amazing! You hardly know you have the thing on.

has removable/washable lining, witch is a must if you're sweating like an old guy on a bmx ;)

I see chain reactions are doing them for a ton! Get one! you won't regret it.

But like I said, you have to try it on first, or you could just be chucking money down the toilet.

trying on is the on and only way - my 56-58 should ahve fitted, I'm about a 57 but it was just too tight around my forehead, I think my bonce is a funny shape. Great thin about CRC is that they do free delivery, so you can order a couple of lids and send back the one that doesnt fit. Also I would be wary about trying on lids by the same manufacturer and assuming they will be that same size, I tried a different model  56-58 661 helmet and fitted great. (Ina  shop for about 100 sheets..)

These ones deffo come up small, my lad has the adult medium one (56-58) and Its too tight for me, my old MX lid which is a medium fits me fine.

Are carbon helmets allot lighter and worth the extra £££??

Thanks for all the great advice.

I was going to buy whats described as a 56-60 661 Comp helmet off of e-bay - its only a tenner at the mo but its just a waste of money if it doesnt fit...

mmmm decisions decisions

Google 661, and find a shop that sell's them close enough to go try it on.

If that one fit's you'll have yourself a bargin!

I found that the full comp in large pressed really hard on my forehead but the evolution carbon that I bought is a medium and fits perfectly ???

you really do have to try em. you don't want to spend time thinking about an uncomfortable helmet while you riding  ;)

is a 661 full bravo full face a bit too MTB? is there any design aspects that make a helmet more BMX rather then MTB?

I didn't try that one!

I did try one down hill mountain bike helmet that was a bit weird. It had a kind of inner cage that was connected to a oversized outer helmet by rods or springs of some sort.
It was bloody huge!

I've got a feeling that the majority of full face lids are designed for the mountain bike market.

It's just a matter of trying them on till' you find what suits you best.

Go for an MX lid over an mtb lid IMO , unless you are a sh1t hot rider who ain't never gonna fall off . I don't trust many of the mtb lids , ask Flying Fox on here who tore the front off a Troy Lee D2 mtb lid  ( they were costing approx £200 at the time ) .

Go and try some good MX lids , take in also what's been mentioned in other posts ie how much do you value your head ? . Cheapest lid = easiest head/brain damage   ;) .

661 MX lids are good value , Bell Moto 7 on ebay are good too .
