Rims - how hard
« on: November 17, 2009, 08:36 PM »
Guys
I was going to strip my Araya 7 rims ( Oven Pride ).
How easy and how time consuming is polishing them ?
Is it a good job ?
Is it better to send them to Custom Colour ?
Cheers

For the £15/20 Paul charges at CC it ain't worth messing with them , he will strip them and mirror polish them  8)  He also prefers to do the prep work himself as caustic can be a nightmare if you leave it on too long , affecting the final finish etc  ;)

He is mad busy at the moment though, so i hope you are not in a mad rush  ???

for £20 mate send them to paul, i did my last set and its a fooking long process, here it is if you decide to give it a go, but be warned you wont be able to knock one out after  :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

1. oven pride
2. depending how bad the sidewalls are you can start with 80 or 150 using a block
3. 240, 320, 400, 500, 800,
4. 1000 avlon pad wet, 1200 wet, 1500 wet, 2000 wet, 3000 pad wet
5. brasso
6. auto sol all over the rim and polish using a machine ( i use a car polisher/ compound machine)

they should come out flat no marks and gleaming like glass   :4_17_5:

hope that helps

For all the hassle it will take you, send them to an experienced polisher and one that understands how important they are so they don't polish our the stamping or polished the edges off.  Look at what he did for Gashead....
