BMX Beat - Mason Smith Bike & Parts ID Please
« on: November 13, 2009, 06:45 PM »
Hi all

I was having a browse the other day and found the following videos -

/>
/>
From what I remember Mason never had a Master (He had a Gen 2 Freestyler that he got from Bob, then had a Factory Rickman when Craig got signed by Haro as Mason lost the Haro ride) and the video is of poor quality.

Could anyone list the parts and more importantly the frame as I think that it might be Jon's Master which I sorted a while ago (if anyone has a better quality video that would be great) -

http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php'topic=11903.0

I spoke with Jon recentley and he remembers going to BMX Beat and taking his Master. It would be good to find out if it is the same bike.

Any help is appreciated as unfortunately Jon is rather ill in Hospital and has a long stay ahead, so anything that I can remind hime of the old times would make him smile.

Thanks,

J.

Thanks for that Jay.

I did notice what look like fork standers (possibly bolted on?) at about 1 min 4 secs, but the decals look fresh with the blue and green and I thought Mason was riding Rickman in 84 and 85.

I also note that when Mason won BMX Beat -
- Mason is on a Rickman (I thought they came out in 84?) and he looks smoother in this video.

Brain ache

Hi Jay

No, I still own July 84 (was the oldest if no others have been found in the last couple of years) and this is Jon's (the second oldest).

Jon got it from Mason's Mum at Custom Riders and used it at displays, events, shows etc. He also did demo's etc up North and Mike D gave him some Haro Pants which he still has (think I've told you that story), anyway Jon's parents lent the bike out for the 90's and then I picked it up and did a gentle resto in about 06 so that the history, decals, sratches stayed and the bike did not loose its identity.

I then gave it back to Jon in late 06 were it has been pride of place in his lounge.

Hi S&M

I still ring Mason at times and pop in but he is not as good on the id of old bmx's plus Haro's as people on here.

I didn't know that he was on Rad, so thanks.

The bars look like Action zone or VDC Freestyle, I think Action Zone, as for the frame its a Haro Master, but I can't tell if its a 84 or 85  :-\

just watched the second vid twice and there's definitely stands on the rear drops, plus just a green and blue double stripe on the downtube decal... its an 85 master

The bars are actionzone, I have a pic of mason doing a cherrypicker on the same bike at holeshot 86. (late86)

that vid of bmxbeat with mason riding the rickman is 84 not 83 as stated, the 3in1 bmxbeat vid was 86.

Mason rode an earlier Haro before he rode rickman and I'm inclined to think it was a gen1 which he ran z rims on.
Craig was off haro and on skyway before rickman appeared.  :daumenhoch:

Yes defiantly an 85 Master 8)

Looks like 401s, DX, the seat could be a Shotgun II, could be a Dominator, but I think Shotgun II.

He defo had a master before Rickman.  We used to ride indoors at Bowes I think it broke on the down tube.  I think he had the rickman then back to a yellow haro master 88 ish.  Never forget the RGD stem and Rotor.  I still have an original long reach RGD from 83 - 84.
