Pro Class wheels question
« on: November 14, 2014, 05:48 PM »
I have a set of survivor Pro Class aluminium wheels. The wheel tape used on the inside of the wheel (which showed through the drilled holes in the rims), was similar to a black ‘electrical’ tape.

I know many of the fully restored bikes on here have the shiny rim tape (metallic red/blue etc). I have seen several threads which suggest ways of reproducing that.

But I want to keep this as original as possible. It’s for a survivor build. Can anyone tell me if the black tape was original or was this just a later ‘fix’.

Thanks

The "tape" was actually a double-sided foil and was black on one side and gold on the other. If you had a blue or red set then that was also doubled sided ie red one and blue the other :daumenhoch:

Got the remains of my original ones in the shed  :coolsmiley:
Still limping......

Go to a hobby or haberdashery shop and buy ribbon, there are thousands of different styles, colours and sizes and you will find exactly what you need.

Cheap too.

I used ribbon for years on my old Pro Class with none of those problems.

You have to use rim tape with it also which stops the 'ballooning' of the ribbon, but that should be common sense.
