old skool bikes....what are they like to race?
« on: September 07, 2009, 10:12 AM »
just wondering how the old school bikes fare on the current tracks and what the riding experience is like?

which of the crop of old school bikes can still cut it on the really undulating and jump heavy tracks?

from what i remember of the bmx scene in the 80's (i never raced, just went to watch in milton keyenes with my dad) there never used to be many jumps, and what few jumps there were, were much smaller!

They are hard work, over time they have really improved the geometery of bikes, saying that I still prefer my old redline, but if you havent really ridden, then start with a new school ride.
A long time ago, in a land far away!

Got to admit, if you seriously going to race an OS bike then have at least 3 weeks riding it at your local track, to just turn up to a meeting on one and expect to race it like a NS bike is not gonna happen, the best bike i've jumped on with the exception with only having to remember to put my ass over the rear when manuling, jumping and pumping was a GT Pro :smitten:

Do not pass the finish line, go straight to hospital...   with your bank account in shreds.

Great advice, you fit in well.

 :2funny:

As a guide: The older the bike, the shorter the frame, the more unstable the ride. It's a good laugh and great fun.

Check out the Oldschool Race section on this site for loads of good info and videos.
