Vitus 181 1982 ish Aluminium BMX
« on: October 29, 2009, 04:11 PM »
Has anyone got any pics or info on the Vitus 181 Aluminium BMX Frame and Forks from around 1982 ish?

I have a NOS Frame and Forks that I want to build up just loking for some inspiration on parts to build it with. I'm guessing it was probably on sold as a Frame and Forks set. I know it was something to do with Peugot but other than that I don't know much and cant find any info.

This thing is seriously light and I think looks way ahead of it's time any help and info would be great :daumenhoch:

Thanks bodamus :)

They look tasty  :daumenhoch:
I might actually build a bike this year instead of just hoarding parts :)

Lee Alexander used to race one when he was sponsored by Stows Bike Shop in Slough; he might have more info.  If I recall correctly (sic) they were a bonded aluminum frame with a 25mm seat post tube and some very relaxed angles on the frame.   Nice bikes but a little flexy and prone to breaking.

What bonded the tubes to the dropouts / headtube / BB sections etc. looks mad

Vitus led the way in bonded tubing back in the 80's, the Vitus raod frames have won the Tour de France and countless other stage and one day races.  I used to own a 797 bonded road frame and fork; great bike very light and responsive.
