I did some digging a while back on tuff wheel release dates - came up with the following :

Tuff I (Unstamped) 1974
Tuff I (Stamped) 1977
Tuff II (Steel Hubs) 1979
Tuff II (Alloy Hubs) 1982
Tuff II (Rear Alloy Hub Front Plastic Hub) 1985
Tuff II (Both plastic hubs) 1986

 :)

there are two different shaped steel hubs , the later ones (i presume are later) are shaped like the alloy ones , i ll take a piccy of my ones , both have the bulge where the spindle is on the front wheel but the shape is different on the metal where they are riveted to the wheel , one is sorta triangle shape and the other round

Wow  Aint' seen steel hubs like those second ones mate  ???

I have a couple of sets of steel hub tuffs all mine are like your first pic - I'd go along with what you said and say those are the '1st gen' ones as the second pics look like it's moving toward the alloy shaped hubs  :-\

Going off the earlier dates i posted up I'd assume they must have come out some time in 1980 or 81  :-\

Somethin' new every day hey  :LolLolLolLol:

Thought I had every bloody type of tuff wheel in my collection - gotta go find these fookers now  ::)

..............are them red ones for sale mate  :LolLolLolLol:
