Where does this belong in the Huffy range?

Top, middle or bottom?

This Huffy came in the middle of the range. They went from PRO 1 to PRO 5. I got the PRO 1 model (which was the cheapest in the range) as my first BMX back in 1981. The same bloke sold another Huffy (NOS) last month. I was watching them both but could not manage to raise enough dose. $:-\$

Apparently so, the guy who owns them used to run Totton buggy and cycle centre in Totton Nr Southampton. When the shop closed down these were never sold and were left in a lock up.
The guy now owns another small Nick nack house clearance shop in Totton but i don't think these are on display.

He was selling them at car boot sales down here but has now taken to selling them on the bay.

Sawzall knows more than me about it all though as he met the guy selling them at a car booty. I don't think he had enough funds on him at the time to purchase any though. I think Phil said they were £35 at the car booty, i know they have sold for a fair few kid more on the bay.

Crikey, almost got a lump in my throat...my first BMX back in 81, had to change the 'pedal-back' brake (as I called it) to go racing at Chorley quarry. Still got some photos somewhere. I was a bit embarrassed of it after a few meetings, so I re-stickered it as a Hutch! Amazing to see one in that condition.

That was one of the first BMX's i remember seeing in my mothers catalogue. There was 2 different models, the pro thunder like that one and one with mag wheels. They were quite expensive for the time about £140.00 i think.

I think this the only teardrop frame & fork Huffy did?? I picked this one up last year really cheap. It has teardrop top, down and seatpost tubes, and the forks look like
ARX. Also has really small neat dropouts. And original decals. Just need to get it built to it's spec from 1983

a lad round these parts had a pro thunder just like that although it was white and had the aforementioned coaster, i think it was the first 'american bmx' i saw in the flesh.

No. I've still got it sat in me play room

I haven't got a penny to spend at the moment, fookin skint. But I have got some parts, ie OPC, BB, headset. Also need to get the decals off in one piece and send them to Del. I'll post some pics when I get going again.

Being from The Netherlands and into BMX I remember Huffy BMX; Anthony Sewell was the first rider I ever saw in a Huffy Jersey I think he race only a few races for them in summer of 81. Later the full on race team of the mid 80's managed by Phillis McKulla (sp?) came along: Team riders were: John Piant, Matt Harris, Chris Driscol, Troy Ratz, Rodney Cooper, Dan Beem, Greg Beem, Bruce Brockert, Bill Danishek, Nikki Danishek, Ron House, Mike King, Stu Thompson, I'm sure I'm missing a few more?? Most of these guys rode custom made Pro Lightning frames built by Huffys in house frame builder Mike Melton. Melton was famous for building the 1984 Olympic track bikes also branded as Huffy. A few years into it Huffy also had something to do with Raleigh and they also had a BMX racing team.
Not sure exactly when they got out of BMX but they decided to give it a second shot in mid 90's; Huffy first picked up Jimmy LeVan he and Melton developed a freestyle frame I think it was called the MJ-12. Huffy hired Mongoose product mgr. Rich Vitello to run the BMX program, he got rid of Jimmy (I think Jimmy was making really good $) and brought on Todd Lyons, Nasty, Stumpy, Chris Sanchez & maybe a few more? The TL-88, Primus, Catalist models came from this team. Sweet Lou Capareli helped managed the team & Magoo did a ton of the product design & marketing. Huffy also sponsored the televised NBL national "Road to Glory" series. I think Huffy was never happy with the sales #'s of the BMX bikes; the Huffy name is what independent bike shops sell against and joke about how cheap their bikes are. Convincing shops that these bikes were of good if not better quality was tough. The quality was just as good as most bikes on the market.
I would love to own an all stock Gold Huffy Pro Lightning.
