been riding old skool freestyle bikes for a few years , now thinking of building a new skool bike, not sure what frame ,forks, wheels etc etc ....... to get ,
rode a couple of N/S bike and they were as heavy as fook, are they all like this compaired to O/S bikes ,
i'm hoping this new machine will be easy to do some good flatland/ park tricks on.

No New Skools are as Light As F-ck

I had a 2004 Haro Master & that thing was heavy

but over the last few years they have got lighter & lighter, my 09 United is very light, almost as light as an Old Skool TA or something similar + they are 100 times better to ride & stronger.

what new N/S bikes did you try wadz?
most of the completes that are out atm are around 25lbs which isnt bad for a bike thats twice as strong as an old-school ride,
and it will ride WAY much better,
as said before in this thread, stodgy at the radbmx shop knows his onions have a look at the fit/wtp/subrosa completes,
how tall are you?

try a £350 fit and a £300 mongoose, when i tried to do a little bunny hop tail whip i nearly rip my arms out of there sockets.

Don't be deceived into thinking that the new bikes are heavier than the old bikes just because you couldn't get it off the ground - the geometry is so, so different you really can't compare the two.

Forget about the odd pound in weight here and there - it doesn't mean shit really.

good advice all round here.

my new school ride (2009 Dirt Bike, 5lb+ 21" frame, I'm 6' 2") is probably heavier than my TA, however it is a zillion (that's just an estimate) times stronger and rides really nice.

a 25lb bike will feel great once you get used to it! and if you're a weight weenie and think you'll ride better if it's lighter
you can always upgrade some parts, straight away some light kevlar beaded tyres will make a difference.....(or a TotalBMX frame.

as said by JT71 and Twobob......it will feel totally diferent to start with, but by the end of a days riding it will be the other way round, all the old school bikes will feel horrible in comparison

christ i don't even know what my NS bike weighs, but i'm still shyte on it

but just fall in love with it all over again as soon as i ride it

def feels dif getting on a ns bike,the weight dif is what does me in every time i attempt to do anything i feel like im going to come off the back off it.

i race old school bike that weighs 24.5 lbs and it feels good .but and this is big but
my new schol weighs 28lbs and feels so much faster steadier and i can asctually jump higher and further on that than on the less weighted ride and its so much easier to control /ride .weight feels odd for bit but eventually the better geometry and bike design make it beter to ride and feel less heavy .

I must say i am not a big fan on light bikes at the mo, been riding my Hoffman N/S which is a heavy old beast, got straight on my Haro racer with carbons for the 1st time in a week and jumped the step up at my track and pushed to much on the bars causing me to nose manual and falling off. done both my knees in and i regret it all!

I must say, i rode my friends United Supreme BL and its just under 25lbs and it rides a treeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat

Luckily i had race pants on! got no grit in my wounds which i was dead pleased with! i dred that... Right knee had stiffened up big time, can't walk properly and will probibly be out of riding for a tad of time
