where were all the riders?
« on: October 04, 2009, 09:13 PM »
turned up to Andover and we only had 4 of us on the gate!

despite the low turnout, we did manage an action packed series of motos with a spectacular crash or fall in nearly every ride.

i just thought more people would have made the effort   :-\

Well done Mr Medved on your comeback race  :daumenhoch:   I hope there is still a class for you to race next season as the old school races are all about dudes like you coming back to the sport.

Shame more riders didn't turn out for old school today at such a high profile race.  This site needs more old school riders and less old school show and shiners.

Cheers Kev ,i enjoyed that so much today riding with 3 other class rider's. Seen the video kev and if you landed that jump it would have been great.
Hope your not hurting two much. Real shame that only 4 OS made the gate.
Big thanks for waiting at the gate holding up the race, i was day dreaming, thinking of your jump Kev .top man
If i race another class next year my old school is gona be coming with me everywere as you cannot beat os.
Personally i think that all new tracks are made for os, I saw so many riders today on new bikes having trouble with the jumps and being court out.
I am thinking of racing os in two classes next year.

Vids will be up tonight & we (we being those that talk the talk "&" ride the bikes) must use our opportunity to race old school or lose it. I'm wondering if more would race if there were dollars involved? I know people willing to cought up & I'm sure with enough riders & an increase in entry fees I'm sure it'd spice things up as a mid/end of season/series cash bonanza.
It's just an idea to try prompt debate on keeping old school alive & for people to run their bikes instead of their mouths :-)
That should put the cat amoung the pidgeons.

Im the same as Spillers, im sad i didnt race it but i really wanted to race cruisers because each race for me is a chance for improvement and personally i normally shite myself silly on tracks like andover on the OS.

so the Limo sat on top of the car all day and for that i apologise, Martin did give me a bit of ticking off for making him put it back on the program and then not racing in it - for that i apologised to him as the point he made was that the trophies cost more than the fees they received.  (who did win anyway?? Kai I presume?)

personally for me any improvement i receive will be from cruisers, i've done my bit for the OS in the season i came back, im constantly trying to get people back in to the sport but when people promise attendance and then dont turn up its hard to keep doing this.

Martin did make the point that without regular attendance and with only 3 or 4 riders turning up for the first 4 regionals, and then none for the rest of the year, its hard for them to keep the class on the program.

If you all seriously want a series in the south I would suggest getting enough of you together and get your arses down to the Southern AGM and make your case because otherwise the only way newbie oldies can have a go is to go straight into Masters.

Si, people like you, Paul Coleman, Gary Porter, etc have paid your dues in old school and it's only natural you now want to progress/improve.

There is no pic for me.

I am guessing it must be on photobucket. (It's blocked for us at work!)

I'll check it when I get home.

At the end of the day a lot of people said they would race and didn't........................................ we had planned as we said in the posts but as Billy will vouch we had major problems with the landlord of the property we were moving out of and that had to take priority.

As for Old School, it is an officially recognised class by BCF and as with any class if the min number of riders dont show then they are amalgamated with another class, surely BCF should be withdrawing it and not just a region deciding not to run a class...........................  There have been previous classes such as 12-15  cruiser class where there were low numbers and that wasen't beig cancelled.

Whilst i agree with Martins sentiment re the trophies there are plenty of occasions when the Old School was not a recognised class, got no end of season trophies but still paid £10 entry to help out, swings and roundabouts me thinks.

Tony is speaking with a few people about reviving interest but i'm sure that numbers wil increase over the winter/summer :daumenhoch:

Ditto.  Even though I don't race it much I still enjoying watching OS racing and I like the fact it draws in returning riders.

Don't give up though stu, if it wasn't for you on sunday there wouldn't have been ANY old school racing so all i can say to you is BLOODY GOOD SHOW matey  :4_17_5:
Both kev & I had our cruisers to (pardon the pun) fall back on but poor Billy O & his bike would've been blowing in the wind..... :10_2_12:
It's up to those who WANT to race old school to turn up & race, not rely on help from other classes to prop us up. Each to their own i say, race what class YOU want when YOU want to but for me old school is where i WANT to be & if i can do well in cruiser too then i'll have a bloody good try. I hear people say fitness doesn't allow them to do both classes, that's fair enough, it's bloody hard to do both & be competative on a modern track at a high level (as i found out at Andover on sunday) & my answer to that is if you WANT to do both then you've no choice but to up your game. That's MY answer & my personal opinion but don't expect it to be everyones cup of tea.
Can't think of a better way to GET fit throughout the winter than do two classes but for some the hard work isn't fun & i guess fun is the order of the day. Hersden saturday & that's easy on the legs & the lungs so maybe..........just maybe, we'll see people WANTING to support the clubs by racing two classes. With a little help from organisers keeping the two classes as far apart as possible racing both classes could become something more would WANT & LIKE to do.
