Buying from the US? Anyone first hand experience?

I'm looking to buy my new frame and parts from Dans Comp in the states, but have been hearing mixed stories regarding customs charges import tax etc.

If anyone has any first hand knowledge on things to look out for, it'd help me a great deal.

I'd be looking to spend about $750, if it makes a difference.

you'll be charged import tax and danscomp will mark the package with its true value so C&E will have your pants down in charges,

youre allowed anything up to £35 after that its pucker up time even if the package is marked as a "gift" or "used"

unless its something you cant get here dont bother,

if you're spending that much talk to stodgy maybe he'll work something out for you, his prices are good anyways tbh

you have to pay a % of anything over 50 dollars, ask them to mark on the shipping form as less than 50 dollars otherwise you'll get a big charge when it lands on these shores, you'll have to pay import duty charge and the postal service charge for impounding the item until you clear the duty, it really adds up, but if it says less than 50 dollars you'll pay nothing

Hmm Ok right, I want/need Standard 125r frame and forks, The Uk distro Zeal don't seem to want to hear anything from the race side of things, all of the 125r's through them are custom orders direct from Standard US.

you need to talk to ziegler on vintage bmx,

he'll help you sort out a full custom standard frame if you want one, thoroughly nice dude too and is 100% standard army,

you'll still probs pay import duty on it though,



good choice on the standard 125r, purely beautiful frame

trusted seller too, i've had loads from him and never had a problem,even had stuff turn up the day after!

you'll still pay import tax though
but it wont be that much if you just ship the frame and and get the parts here,

Dan, have you had a word with Dylan Clayton about your Standard?- he seems to be their man in the U.K now that he's fallen out with Macniel. He sorted himself, Vinegar Tim and Kyle Evans out with 125R's in the last few weeks- as you probably know Kyle's riding for them now. I'm seeing Dylan tomorrow night at Manc so I could ask him about availability/costs. As for shipping from the U.S, I've never had a problem with Danscomp or J+R Bikes, but we try and get a few peoples' orders together and make sure they arrive in one box- it makes the postage cost cheaper as opposed to individual items.
