Don`t think there`s a "correct" side.The reason why the cable is on the left on new-school racebikes is that the noodle for the v-brake is on the left...
For me, front is left, rear is right Very much an American and European thing, most UK riders have the rear on the left.
if its an american bike then it has to be down the right side and for the smoothest pull, right side too as if its a caliper brake the hanger arm/outer cable stop will be on the right keeps a smoother cable route.
