Can anyone identify my Ammaco project?
« on: September 27, 2009, 11:19 PM »
Firstly hi! Can anybody identify the year and model of my latest project. The only ID on the frame is an Ammaco manufacturer's sticker :) Sorry for the crap photo, my camera doesn't do low light conditions  :-[

I'm open to suggestions for bits - it'll be my first (learning!) build. I'm a professional (car) mechanic so this should be a nice diversion from work :) If I enjoy it I'll move on to something nicer like my mate's Haro Master ;)

It looks to me like it wants:

grips
crank
pedals
brakes (I'd like to run front and back cus I'm a noob)
tyres
Maybe some nice wheels
Seat, post and clamp - the seat is fubared

Amongst other things  :2funny:

hello, i have to be honest and say it doesn't look like any Ammaco i remember??  looks more like a Toys R Us bike, it looks like it has chain guard lugs on the frame  :-\

sorry

You don't have to be sorry, I don't mind  :coolsmiley: The idea of it being a Toys R us bike made me laugh -  I'm tempted to have decals made up with it on  :2funny:

The chain guard is pigeon poo Mig welded on over the "chrome" so I'm assuming that's a later addition. That's coming off. It looks like somebody has the rights to the Ammaco name in the UK and has put together bikes on a generic frame. Some concentrated Google work has turned up a company in Essex called PCM group that ownes/manufactures them.

It seems some bits are in the style of 80s Ammacos - the forks are the same as this rather lovely 84-85 Freestyler

More internetzing suggests a build date of mid-late nineties because of the big thick rubbish down tube. So, plan is to clean it up, replace some of the worst tat that's nailed on to it then have a go and see if I'm as good at riding as I thought I was when I was 16  :2funny:

If I am or I don't kill/injure myself then it's off to buy something nice :)
