News from John De Bruin  ::) :

I have some unfortunate news about the Hutch Bear Trap pedals. It appears as
though some spindles contain a single microscopic crack on one side of the
wrench-flat area of the pedal spindle. This has caused a portion of the
wrench-flat area to break off when torque was applied with the wrench. More
recently it was discovered that some of the spindles may also have been
heat-treated to the wrong specification. TO ENSURE EVERYONE'S SAFETY, IT IS
REQUESTED THAT EVERYONE DISCONTINUE USING THE PEDALS UNTIL NEW REPLACEMENT
SPINDLES CAN BE PROVIDED. New replacement spindles are already in
production, and I anticipate them being finished in approximately 4-6 weeks.
Here is the process to receive replacement spindles:

1. We will send replacement pedal spindles to you as soon as they arrive.
These will be provided to you at no charge, regardless of the warranty
period. Everyone who has purchased Hutch Bear Trap pedals will receive new
replacement spindles. You do not need to request replacement spindles.

2. Included will be a return envelope. For safety reasons, it is requested
that you send the old spindles back to us. If they are sent back, you will
receive a coupon code for the HutchBMX.com web site in an amount that makes
it worth the effort to return them. In addition, returned spindles will
qualify you for an IMPROVED 1-YEAR WARRANTY ON THE ENTIRE SET OF HUTCH BEAR
TRAP PEDALS, effective from the original purchase date.

3. If you prefer to send the entire pedals back to us, we will be happy to
replace the spindles for you and send the complete pedals back to you.
Pedals should be sent to:

To true - and it must be costing him a little to do - So hats off to Jon for honoring his sales like this.

The defect won't affect most people who bought the pedals anyway as they will have gone on show bikes.

One side broke off the sets that Davey Lindsay and I bought, and we hardly even touched them with the spanner.  I still rode mine at the Brits though!  :D  I hope the repop aerospeeds don't have a similar flaw, as I did fancy a set  :smitten:

cheers big M, :daumenhoch: i wasn't hinting though,i'm just thinking that cro-mo and Ti go through very different processes.can't imagine that both spindle types suffered. :-\

all this is what you get from jumping on the bandwagon and rushing stuff out,

no proper development,

no real testing,

very little in the way of quality control,

just have some stock knocked up from the old designs and cash in,

and the old schoolers will que up all excited, credit cards in hand,

fair play to the guy for re-calling the faulty products but he is ROYALLY fooked if someone gets injured through them failing,

tbh i cant even see the point in them, they arent old school so you couldnt fit them to a build without looking like a cheat,
neither are they "retro" as the technology is outdated,

just another symptom of the old school becoming money obsessed,

when it used to be about "fun"
 :-\
