Gt Performer for my eldest
« on: September 21, 2009, 05:24 PM »
Afternoon all,

I've two daughters here who have been starting to show a bit of interest in bmx. My eldest daughter has taken my bike out a few times, and I had been talking to her about building her one of her own, as she's finding mine a wee bit difficult to get on with. She's seen the wee stash of parts I have in the attic and had her eye on my mongoose f&f but when I showed her an old GT performer frameset I had and told her she could fix it up whatever way she wanted, her eyes kinda lit up a bit  ;D.

Anyway, here's a few pics of the build at different stages. It's quite a mixture of old and new school parts, but she's well pleased with it, and that's the main thing. She'll also be well stoked at seeing it online later when I show her this thread.

The frame came from ebay.de about two years ago, with about half a dozen layers of rattle-can spray and cost me 99 euros. Most of the other parts I had here, except pedals and seat.

Brian (and Lara)  :daumenhoch:

I'm a parent ... I know what really happened.

"Brian... BRIAN ... Lara is driving me MAD... can you do something with her please..."
"I was just going to the pub... what are you going that's so important?"
"Look Brian, I COOK... I CLEAN...I....
"OK OK...jesus"

"Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light."

Awesome!! The value in memories you'll both get out of that bike will always be worth a lot more than the money value of it!

That's how to bring 'em up, I nominate you for a medal in the field of good parenting.
The bike's pretty cool, I should add.

Thanks for all the comments guys, they all mean a lot, both the bike related ones, and the others :)

I never expected the girls to understand my addiction to BMX, let's face it, girls never did when I was a younger ;D but they've always been into their bikes, so I guess it was maybe inevitable.

Now, if only Becks, the youngest, didn't find BMX dvd's "boring", I'd get to watch them when I'm getting her settled for bed at night, although those" High 5" dvd's of hers aren't bad... (google it ;))

I've just showed Lara the thread and she just gave me her shy smile and dandered outside. That'll mean she's pleased with the comments ;)

Brian  :daumenhoch:

(next build is my mongoose motomag - but this one's for me heh heh)
