Skyway Rivets

I have a set of Skyway Graphites that need re-riveting. I have the rivets, but not the tool to rivet. If anyone has some advise regarding the type of 'Rivet Snap' needed, where I can get one or borrow would be appreciated. Rgds....

I dont know ANYONE who has successfully done this.

Even Biagio hasnt and he could earn a small fortune if he could.

I know a guy on here who has mastered the art of making them look rivited but they are not safe enough to ride on.

You could try a local machine shop to get them made up but I would imagine they won't be cheap but given they are graphites it would be worth it.  I think you would need to get the rivets machined up as they are tapered.  Then you would need to get a dolly made for each end of the rivets to hold one side and press the shape of the other side whilst also maintaining pressure (a machine press would be needed).  Hey presto

Biaggio supplied the rivets, these are from skyway with one end flat, just the other to press, he last did one in 2002, he suggested a rivet press or something the like..

I've been trying to suss this out as well for one of my graphites but with no joy.  One of the guys on here has successfully had it done but when I contacted him he seemed to think it was no big deal and any local machinist would do it.  I phoned about 10 and none would even entertain the idea...so I'm back stuck at square one.  As I understand it you need an orbital riveter or something like that to do it 'right' but I think there must be other ways to just get the job done.

If you get any joy I wouldn't mind hearing about who did it...cheers

I think we've got an orbital riveter at work, i'll have a chat with the engineers tonight.

If you coild get the rivit made up then thats half the battle. Forming domed headed rivits is reasonably easy, you can do it by hand with a small ball pein hammer, better to do it with a proper former though.
Replicating the original ones looks difficult though as you would need exactly the right length rivit.
I wonder if once you formed a reasonable shaped head you could file the top off carefully to flatten it ?

ive done a few wheels now...turned the rivets myself and formed one end then peened the other ends over with a hammer..there not goin anywhere..heres a couple of pics.
