whats the best way to restore a chain???

Hi Folks..

as the above really, nice old chain but it's discoloured, removed paint (red links but it was flaking off)- was just going to clean in a parts washer and hope for the best.

Is there a better way to get it NICE!!!

i leave mine soaking in thinners for few days, everyday keep turning it,and giving it light scrub with a soft brush...

wouldnt mind doing this with old D.I.D's or Izumi's

  ^^^^^^ the chain is an Izumi's, that why I am keen to save it.

no real wear from riding, just through its age..

I just spray them with lemsolve and rub with a clean rag

I had one that was nearly solid after years sitting on a manky bike and thought sod it and stuck it in the good ole oven pride bag and after a bit of loosening off it was like new...wouldn't do it on a coloured one though unless you want it 'shiny'!!

i used to do my motorbike chains in petrol overnight , always came out cleaned , degreased and loosened

Put it in old plastic bottle with some diesel and let it soak and then shake it and it will loosen out.

spray WD40, wire brush it and clean wit a rag. works for me.

thanks folks... I am going to try them all! 

If they do not work I will go with Gashead and Pickle, I just hate throwing anything away. I am that tight I have tried to find a way to recyle my own snot.
