Help installing profile cranks
« on: September 12, 2009, 01:13 PM »
Afternoon all

I'm installing some shiny new profile 180's and I'm just about done but I'm still left with a gap on the axle. I've used all the spacers (5 - 2 on drive side and 3 on other side) but theres still a gap. Have I done something wrong or do I just need more spacers?

Any advice appreciated.

Hi dude, what frame & bottom bracket are you putting the Profiles in?
Do you grovel to your master? Do you beg like a dog?

You might need another spacer or two in there then by the sounds of it  :daumenhoch: did the b/b have the wider alloy bearing cover/spacers?

Nice one, thanks.
No spacers left. Can I use the spider adaptor on the non-drive side as that would act as a big spacer?

its not ideal but it might run ok,

if you've used all the spacers just second check that theres enough axle left to support the arms,

and get the proper spacers for it as soon as you can,

Theres always the possibility that your not tightening them up enough!!

How much of the axle is showing through your crank arms?

When I tighten mine I usually have to use spare aluminium washers on the profile tool so that I can tighten it up more.

I also use a Hop up kit to space the crank out as they look nicer than the washers.

You can buy the hop up kit as part of the Bottom bracket set.  2 cups, 2 bearings, 2 bolts and the hop up kit from loads of places

Or

Just buy the 2 hop up from here.   I dont think they are made by profile but they fit and do the job.
