well, if someone is selling repro pad sets as originals then thats up to them, if you look at my pads you can see they are repro.
and like i said IF i get some bars made you would have to do a lot to them to make them look original that it wouldn't be worth the effort

the fake frames weren't made in flint, they were being made by a bike shop somewhere in Warrinton, after dp moved to flint the owner started making them. they only made frames no forks.

i would only like to make around 10 / 20 sets of bars and that would be all. the Knurling would be different and they would have the web address and batch number on them,

they would be more retro bars than repro anyway. don't know of anyone selling retro TA's or Haro Gen 1's as original so i don't think it would be a problem

I'm sitting here feeling so SO F**king lucky to have fluked the find of a GL Plus Limited Edition. I'm new to this site and new to restoring bikes but I'm not new to DPs as I spent years in the 80s riding one. I can already relate to the money that people spend to create some of the bikes seen on here - its an addiction and the attitude of 'no-compromise' is the life blood to the scene - I collect hip hop, funk and anything with drums. When old records get released it is always obvious that they are NOT the original - but there IS a audience to buy a re-release of the music as people would rather have a copy than nothing - the copies do nothing to effect the price of the originals because they are 'copies'.

There's nothing to stop anyone making and trying to pass off copies of the items that are pulling the money in on E-Bay - Steve is talking about stamping them and building in subtle differences so you know the copies from the originals. Copies that are sold as such do nothing to reduce the price of the originals. I'm all up for Steve doing this because the chances of me finding a pair now are very rare, but I want a ride that feels like the bike I had in the 80's - a DP Firebird with Ladder bars - and I want it NOW because I'm 37, my knees kill and and want to make the most of how I'm feeling. My take on this is that if Steve did ladder bar copies I'd buy a pair in a heart beat, for the same reason I'd buy a re-release of a classic record I KNEW I couldn't afford to buy... you know its not the real thing but you want to experience the 'feeling' however you can.

the chances of me finding a pair now are very rare, but I want a ride that feels like the bike I had in the 80's - a DP Firebird with Ladder bars - and I want it NOW because I'm 37,

that makes feel very lucky to get my latest one thats bonafide bad to the bone with original Ladder bars

I tottaly F**king agree - the last I saw of my original DP and ladder bars was in the early 90's with some little Coventry thief riding off on it.

I'm finding this Old School BMX Collecting/Restoring or what ever you wanna call it, is getting stranger and stranger as each year passes. I don't wanna sound like I'm slaggin any particular manufacturers off as everyone has their favourites.... but back when I used to ride late 70's early eighties the DP/Firebird stuff was widely regarded as pretty "low end" to put it politely.

I just get really surprised to see things like this go for such wacky money

- some people read about other peoples experiences and want to buy in to it so they can be 'cool' - it happens with everything

DP's were never Haro Master's but they were UK made and affordable and loved. Not sure about how they were perceived in the late 70s early 80s but in the mid 80s you either had one and loved it or had one and wanted to sell it as you wanted a Performer - check the Wall of any ABMX - always 2 or 3 DPs on there - I guess it was really a transitional bike that you learnt on ( or stuck with in my case ) but its remembered with affection and thats what counts.

Totally agree with ya fella.... I just thought it was a lot of money for a dp that's all especially as a couple of performers are up for ale on here for a good 100 quid less. But I guess if ya want it... ya pay for it!

A few years ago the going rate for a DP freestyler frame and forks was about £75. I bought quite a few back then - have had a total of 12 DP framsets pass though my hands over the years

I didn't buy them as investments or to make money. I bought them to keep and restore and would only sell one if I found something better to replace it with

I would have been quite happy to sell them for what I got them for but I usually just stuck them on ebay at 99p with no reserve and the prices just kept going up and up

Glad it's worked out for you. Remember, you need to sell this stuff when the market is at it's peak or you will kick yourself as prices crash at a later date and you'll feel like a crazy fool when it's worth farthings again.

I didn't notice when I first looked - Firebird Steve pointed it out to me last night on the DP chat room - the rear dropouts do look kid of weird! could just be the light - Ebay has jacked up the price of many a good deal - once theres a sniff of something with some coolness factor like sharks they are in there.

I never get why people 'bid' anymore - once you are aware of esnipe and sites like that then why bid? it just drives the price up and you pay more. With esnipe theres never any disappointment - you choose the price you want to pay and it gets bid 6 seconds before the end. If you win cool if you don't ... well you didnt want to pay that much.

I chose the wrong time to get back into it which is just fukin typical - it I hadn't found the radbmx forum and seen the bikes of people like Firebird, Stevecosta & phantom photon I wouldn't be as up on putting the time in and doing a sick restoration though - thanks for the drive lads

It surprises me why people think you have to sell a investment,i know people who have valuable stuff but its not for sale,its like they dig the fact its sought after and that its worth good money makes it more appealing.

i think with DP's theres people who will buy them and don't care they are not original,i like the fact my chrome ones have a original shine and dayglo one's still wear its original paint and i'm looking at what DP sent out the factory door to a kid that loved it.
i never owned a bike i hated bitd sure i had stuff i bought only to sell that i didn't have time for but DP's were always being bought and sold.i would buy one off someone who didn't use it and sell it to someone who did want it.

its funny how DP freestyler f+f's do more than a lot of yank f+f's which seems to be a problem to some of the owners of said yank bikes

i think its doing big wedge,and its difficult to buy genuine forks seperate,i have only ever seen 3 pairs of forks for sale and heard about another set on here,thats 4 in total not including the ones that were supposed to be in a bike shop nos last year that i never found out if they were.
