Mini build questions
« on: March 08, 2006, 12:26 PM »
Having never built a little uns bike before I'll seek some guidance on a couple of things from you folks

I have some flip flop hubs and need and idea of the gearing that I should run for the bike, ie each side and also the chainring size?

With regards to the rear brake, will I need a road race caliper or  will a DC 890 suffice?

That's all, these are the last parts I need to get before building starts.

Thanks

Paul

I built a mini for my lad and used 40 - 16 gearing with 152mm length cranks

With regard to the brake just fit the wheel where you want it and then measure the brake reach to see if you need a special mini road caliper. in most cases you should be OK, I used a DC 890 with no probs.

my nine year old runs 36/15 alot of the time as this gives him better accelleration out the gate, and quicker pick up, but sometimes he loose's out on top end on really long tracks. brake wise its what fits best. on my old school mini i'm using weinmann 730, but 890's are excellent.

Thankyou all, I'll have to wait until I have built her up before spec'ing the brakes, but gearings wise, I'll use your infor and do some calcs.

I used the 40 - 16 ratio with 152mm cranks on my Mini Ripper

Used a mini short reach rear brake too which was perfect for the skinny Ukais

The caliper is a mini Tektro unit with a DC Tech 3 lever

if you have a flip flop hub, it means that you can fit a smaller than 16 tooth , to the smaller threaded side
-ie the large side can only take 16 or more

i have 2 mini brake alipers, one silver one black

-here is a link for fmf cranks at £25
We've got FMF isis in stock at £25.00 with £3.50 postage.
