Some Mid School Footage
« on: September 01, 2009, 08:12 PM »
Hi All,

There’s a bit of a back story to this footage so I thought I’d elaborate a little in case you think this is some kind of rose tinted ego trip for south yorkshire!

I rode with some great people and even greater friends through what we are now calling the “mid school” era. As life and people moved on the bunch of riders and friends who’d had so many amazing sessions and times together grew apart (such is life eh?).

I’d stayed in touch with George but I had lost touch with most of the other riders from those days and they in turn had lost touch with each other.

So 3 years ago I was clearing out a few cupboards and I found loads of old VHS footage that we had shot throughout 1993 and 94. Added to this I also had some additional footage shot by Jon Pratt and Ross milne for their own video releases.

This was late 2006 and it had been about 10 year since I’d ever pulled a trick worth seeing on a bmx and seen most of the guys I used to ride with! So I decided it was high time this footage was turned into something worth keeping so that one day I could show my kids what I used to get up to.

The result was a 40 min retrospective film featuring all the riders from the Sheffield scene around this time.

We also arranged a get together/reunion of all the old sheff riders for a premier of the film at Georges house which was ample reward for putting the time in to create it.

So I’ve uploaded a few sections for you to view. Hope it brings back some great mid school memories of dodgy haircuts, dodgy clothes and dodgy bikes!!

The Sections are below. Hope you enjoy!!! Waddy.

My bit (yes the choice of soundtrack was nicked from that rooftop section)

George French – The flip and rails are pretty inpressive but what I love about this section is George doing a nose wheelie!!!!

Ben White – Pretty much the soul of sheffield riding back in the early 90’s

James Needham – Actually some of this was shot in the late 90’s but hey!, he still rips.

Chris Hardy  - Chris pretty much started the whole mid school scene in South Yorkshire!!

Great stuff Waddy, and it's awesome to see some footage of Chris.  We became good friends for a while when he was living in San Diego and I was over there for a few months, back around 2002.  In fact, here's a couple of random photos:

Pool carve ( ;-) ), somewhere up near Clairmont:

The famous Pelican Wall, downtown SD:

SD again, awesome spot under a freeway:

I wouldn't be too surprised if he's still riding that Shaman...
