Almost Famous.... BMX on TV.
« on: August 20, 2009, 07:14 PM »
Had a really cool day today... filming for a Prime Time TV Show....

The 'Presenter' had half decent skills, considering he hadn't seen a Burner let alone ridden one since 1983/84...

Its Jason Bradbury from Channel 5's - The Gadget Show'

The Production Company contacted Raleigh a couple of months ago and Raleigh put them in touch with myself at www.burnerworld.co.uk

The do a feature called the Wall Of Fame ( Lego V Meccano / iTunes V Napster / Atari V Wii etc etc)... they recorded two bits of footage on the items in questions and then choose which deserves its place on the Hall Of Fame...

Today was The Raleigh Burner v The Specialized Stumpjumper (essentially an early iconic BMX v and early iconic Mountain Bike). I know there will be voices on here that will decry the choice of the Burner to feature in this but at the end of the day, you can't argue with Sales Figures... BIGGEST Selling BMX in the UK  ;) and the most iconic of the models has to be the Mk1 Tuff (despite its flaws as a true race or freestyle BMX!, its the one bike Joe Bloggs remembers).

I met with the Film Crew at Perry Park BMX track in Birmingham at 8.30am this morning, taking along a few 'show' bikes and letting Jason use my Mk1 Tuff for the filming...

We were invited back to the studio afterwards to watch the filming of the 'finale/decision' on which bike made the Hall Of Fame, which was really cool, got to meet all the presenters (incl. the lovely Suzy Perry). But we weren't permitted to take any pictures on set..  :( but they made us feel really at home and Beth loved it..

He did nearly 'stack' the bike a couple of times...

And considering the bike is MINTY MINT and stacked with NOS parts (Tuffs included!!!) there was times when I was a bit nervous...  :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:

He suprised me... He was real eager to get kitted up and ride the bike... I expected him to 'tootle' along the track proper shakey... but he scared me to death...

I daren't tell him that he was sat astride £500-600 worth of restored Burner..  :-X :-X I've never even ridden that bike myself... its so small...

Footage should be fun to watch though.... BUT please remember that they write the script themselves.. I have provided research data etc but nothing more.. so some of the dialogue to go with the feature could be cringe-worthy..  :D :D :D

NOt sure when its scheduled for... the girl who I have dealing with did say about 4 weeks time.. but I'll stick it in the shoutbox when its gonna be on and give this thread a bump.

What a smart day, good on ya!  Your collection looked quality all lined up on the decking.  The MK1 Burner in blue and yellow was my first BMX, lots of peeps on her slag 'em off but I loved that bike so much, wish I'd kept it.  Well done again, looking forward to seeing the show when its broadcast.  :daumenhoch:

Nice one Beard, yeah so cool to get involved with the Gadget show and to see Bradders on an old skool :daumenhoch:

He's done some other BMX stuff on the show (testing the Faction 22 inch) and this weeks show:

Riding backwards (1.30 onwards): Bet we'll all be trying this ;D

Perry Park's looking fine as well......didn't realise it was actually rideable, wow, not far from me :D

Cheers fella's... I'll post up when the show is on...

Have you ever been asked to pull a skid and stop within a few cm's of a particular mark!!!

They wanted a hot of the rear tuff wheel coming to a skid.... so they marked the ground, the camera guy got on his front and they filmed as I skidded to a stop.

Thankfully I won't be in shot... just the back wheel.. and its most likely that it won't make the final cut as the camera guy said my boots were in shot...  ;D ;D

Pulling SKIDS... I felt like I was 12 again...  :LolLolLolLol: :LolLolLolLol:
