my dp freestyler model ## NOW WITH PAD SET ##
« on: July 26, 2009, 09:06 AM »
after seeing the mini ripper i thought it would be cool to have a go building a mini dp freestyler

the first thing i did was to measure the frame and divide all the measurements by 3 that gave me the scale i needed to work from

i bought the tubing from B&Q and a local hobby store. most of the frame is made from ally and the rest brass

here are some pics i took, not great as i had to use the iphone

i started on the bottom tube and head tube, butting all the joints together using the dremil and some files

next was the the BB and seat tube, i pre drill the the bb ready for fitting the chain stays

to make sure i got the angles correct i used a protractor and then copied the angles over onto some paper

to make sure u got the seat gussett right i traced over the one on the frame, scanned it in and reduced the scale down, cut it out and drew round it onto the ally sheet

the next stage was to make the rear dropouts, this was done in the same way as the gussett

i had already made up the top tubes for the frame but hadn't taken any pics. the best way i found to form them the same way was to tape them together and bend them both at the same time.

the chain stays were made the same way as the top tubes, they fitted straight in!!

what i found cool was that all the parts fitted together really well, the scale and measurements was spot on  8)

next up, the forks

as before, taping both tubes together to form the bends, and cutting one end off ready for the dropouts

both legs now glued on

the first dropout fitted to the fork leg

the forks almost finished with the head set. i cut the stearing tube down and fitted a threaded bolt into the top

head set fitted in the head tube to see how well it would fit

and finally, the forks fitted into the frame. i need to do some more work with some filling and sanding, then it will be ready for painting

i'll get some more pictures up when i do some more work on it, hope you like it  8)

Absolutely stunning.

Was the headset cups just pure luck or did you already preplan the headset to fit the tube size?

I think you missed my point Pete. The headset could have been an after thought with his intentions just to do the frame and forks.

If it wasnt then fair play as i would have assumed that the headset would have been the most difficult part to achieve.

The head set was always going to be made but like most things I make I never have a plan, it all just seems to come together. I was on the phone to Scott when I had the idea to use the back part of the press stunds I use on my pads.
I'll make a pad set once I have made the ladder bars
