Supergoose 3
« on: July 24, 2009, 04:45 PM »
Hi all,
Just bought a Supergoose 3 from ebay and just wondered if someone would take a look just to make sure it's genuine before I hand over the cash...

Cheers in advance.  ;)

hmmm,  the rear drop outs don't look at all right to me.

On second look he does mention that they have been strengthend.

Thought it was too cheap to be true...

What about the serial no? Any ideas?

Check this site out:

http://www.vintagemongoose.com

According to the site the serial number of your goose is correct for a bike produced in October (that's the I) of 1983 (that's the first number - 3). The remainder (000973) is technically the serial number.  So it all seems legit.

I am pretty much a novice at this myself so I'd wait until someone else chips in with some more trusty advice.

Hope this helps though.

Out of interest, if it is genuine - is £300 a good price?

I would say that was a fair price as it does have pro class wheels as well. Just a shame about the other items on the bike  :daumenhoch:

Difficult to tell from the really naff pics in the ad but it looks like the rear tubes are thick and the serial No. is stamped on the box section rather than under the BB so it looks promising. Looks like they could be full height pro-class bars which are correct for a USA SG3 as oppose to the smaller ones found on the calis also.
As jimmy says 300 is a probs a fair price if the frame is structurally OK and with the pro-class rims and bars included I guess but there's a lot of stuff to be replaced (although he mentions some original bits included but not shown  :-\ )
Don't like the sound of "Rear wheel mounting on the frame has been strengthened and re chromed due to ramp use some years ago" i'd deffo want to see some pics showing WTF that's all about  ???
At the end of the day it looks like a local pick up job anyways so take yer cash and take a look - if your not happy walk away.........

good luck mate  :daumenhoch:

Well, seeing as I had to "retire" at 1:20, I didn't hear that story about your real name not being John after all......

From the pics the rear tubes look big 'n' beefy like they should be, and if it comes with all the bits he took off then £300 is a cracking deal but the bit about strengthened drop-outs is a slight worry. Sounds like a repair to me........

These are not the droids you are looking for - he can go about his business

its one of those 'things that make you go hmmmmm'   :LolLolLolLol:

I don't like the look of it at all, the rear dropouts look shagged, they don't seem to have the holes in anymore  ???
i personally wouldn't pay £300 for it, looks like it has too many issues & there seems to be a fair few supergeese around that have issues.
It does have the pro class rims & some other nice parts but it seems thats where your £300 is going cos your frame is fooked  :LolLolLolLol:

Having said that tho i try not to buy any os bike that has been repaired/rewelded, but thats just me  :daumenhoch:

Have you noticed the last 2 pictures are really small.  They look like they have been copied from another eBay listing but the guy copied the little picture instead of the larger pic.  Strange, why would he use someone elses pics  :-\
