looking at doing one of these as my next build,but what should i be looking for regards serial number,i did hear there is something to do with the amount of holes on the fork dropouts that relates to year,but im probably wrong on that

3 holes on rear drop out for an 84 and some 85 :daumenhoch:

Ive done alot of research on these babies over in the US and over here.

Basically for it to be identified as a US made one (which is what you want) then any rear left hand drop out stamped serial with 84 in the number can 100% be confirmed as a made in the USA frameset. :daumenhoch:

They made them in the USA up until 1985 when production went abroad and small changes were made to the frame.

Forks started off as GT Pro forks on the early unstamped performers, then performer forks were made specifically for the bike and finally they introduced a small brake cable lug on the fork.

Performers rock. Best value for money os frameset and also the nicest to ride for an adult as they are long.

Yeh but Pete ground off the stamping himself and got them chromed, then buried them for 6 months pulled them out and went over them with wire wool to make them look old. :2funny:

Petes are nice but retro's is the nicest. ;) >:D ;D
