Comic 'n Art : RAD RIDES: The Best Of BMX. Bike stories wanted.

BMX bikes are iconic: fact. There’s something about a BMX that appeals to kids, adults, cyclists and, more often than not, those involved in visual creativity. If someone tells you they’ve never wanted a BMX, well, they’re probably lying…Rad Rides: The Best of BMX (working title) looks to explore the world of BMX through photographs of bikes and Q&As with their owners. Some of the bikes are knackered, well worn by owners that have been riding for years. Others are beautiful, sculptural works of art, built but never ridden as a keepsake. Why are these bikes so sacred to their owners?
What do these BMX riders do for a living? Where do they ride their bikes? What is it about the BMX that appeals to them? Is their bike a classic production bike or is it a custom build?
All these questions and more are asked to dozens of BMX owners around the world who have proudly had their bike photographed for inclusion in this unique publication…
Rad Rides is the project of three BMX lovers in the UK who are keen to create a beautiful book that pays tribute to BMX in a celebratory and accessible way.

-Gavin Lucas - senior writer at visual communication journal Creative Review and author of Guerrilla Advertising (2006) and Badge/Button/Pin (2007).
-Stuart Robinson - longtime BMX rider, enthusiast and font of BMX knowledge.

Getting involved:
If you have a production bike or have custom built your dream BMX, we’d like to see it and find out a bit about you and your bike too. Every BMX rider has stories to tell and the inclusion of BMX related anecdotes, alongside images of the bikes of the riders that recount them, will form an integral part of the Rad Rides project.
Deadline for submissions:
The deadline for submissions with accompanying information is 31 August 2009.
