Ok need help with putting mushroom grips on new bars?
« on: July 16, 2009, 10:03 PM »
Ok its taken me about 20mins to fit new mushroom grips on the handle bars! All I'm doing is pulling and tugging the darn things!
I could use cooking oil or talc it might help but don't think it will be wise unless someone can suggest a method?
I've tried reversing the grips but they don't fold back easily actually not well at all!  ::)
Thanks
Jay

My latest method is CABLE TIES, slide about 4 or 5 cable ties into the grip, slide the grip onto the bars then pull the ties out 1 at a time :daumenhoch:

Not sure mate because I strip my bike carbs and wear nitril and latex gloves and they go brittle and fall apart mate? :-X

Washing up liquid mmmm that might work?

Hairspray works great mate. have just fitted 2 sets using this. you can slide them into place still when on and it dries like glue. wd40 and a straw is great for removal  ;)

It's getting the b*stard things off that's the hard part  :LolLolLolLol:

I have just fitted a pair and just used water using a spray thingy to spray a fine mist rather than create a flood  :daumenhoch:

I always spray deodorant on to the bars and inside the grip, job done in 5 seconds.

It's the Lynx affect you see.
One build a year, the only way to get it right. No rushing involved.

Yep!!  Easy peasy.    I use fat cable ties rather than skinny ones!!  :daumenhoch:

Its preference I've got brand new chrome on my bars and knew petrol was not a good idea, the cable ties could scratch something, the washing up liquid was good, but I know there is salt in it plus the water mix could corrode the inner part of the bar ends. The hair spray was spot on as its quite wet to start then its glue, but getting them off is another issue I'm guessing? :-\
