copper plated LTF finished
« on: June 12, 2009, 04:34 AM »
My new whip.  S&M LTF, copper plated.

frame: LTF 20.5" TT
forks:  Primo Strand
stem:  GT Piston
bars:   Tree Branch 8"
grips:  Animal/Edwin Delarosa
brakes:  Odyssey Evo II
cranks:  I don't know, came on my 07 Diamond back
pedals:  Primo
chain:   Shadow half-link  28/10 gearing
wheels:  Odyssey

I lost almost 2.5 lbs just in the frame and fork switch.  The bike feels solid, but a little twitchy, light.  The bars, forks, cranks and seat post were rawed, polished, then treated with a cold metal bluing solution.

Wow!  That looks amazing.

How much weight did the plating add to the frame?

Where did you get it done (and how much - if that's not being too nosey)?

I had to weigh myself then myself with the frame, before plating the difference was 4.4 lbs.  After plating, same process, the difference was 4.4 lbs.  There isn't much copper on the frame, it's a really thin layer, grams maybe.  I had them plug the holes, headtube, BB, seatube and vent holes, no need to plate the inside of the tubing.  My old plated frame has copper inside to.  There was a 2.3lbs difference between the Blacklightning frame and the LTF.  I must have lost another .2lbs with the new forks, all of the other parts were on the old bike.  29lbs before-26.5lbs now.

Pacific Plating in San Diego plated it for me for $225, frame, 990 mounts and brake cable tabs.

Have you still got that bowl in the back yard too Andy ?
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

Yeah Billy, the bowl is at one end and the 8' quarter at the other.  I have a 3' box and a 4' box in between the two.  I am going to put a deck all around the top of the bowl with hitchin' posts/wall ride on each side of the bowl and the deep end will raise to about 7'.  I am thinking of taking out the dirt pump humps on each side of the box jumps to clear a straight pedal path to be able to do higher air on the QP.   ;)
