Marco Lara did indeed pull 540s at Rom.  He was doing a kinda-sorta 540 a year earlier, it was 360 or more in air and a wee pivot out to finish it. He was doing those on the concrete banks next to the halfpipe wall.  He then went into the performance bowl and did them properly.  Either myself or my old riding buddy has some stills somewhere, which i will endeavour to scan in sometime.

Marco was the Rom ruler. the original burly rider who rode everything at full speed usually yelling some incomprehensible command to get out of his way  ;D ;D ;D.  A good friend to me, shame he's not about riding these days. I saw him at Rom around 99-00 ish, he had a fully tricked out Ripper and was riding the moguls with his son  :)

Ain't seen him since though. Pity.  :)

There was only one Marco, a Columbian fellow.  I don't recall him ever having a Grifter, the first bike I saw him on was a mongoose motomag weighing about 4 ton  ;D ;D ;D

My mate Duncan rode a grifter in 82 for a summer - used to go through a handfull of cotter pins every session   :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

I tried jumping that on my motomag once, didn't quite make it tho. Front wheel caught the top :idiot2:. I got a picture of the take off here somewhere but me old man didn't get any of the accident as he was too busy trying to untangle me from the fence lol.

The area where the track was is still there but there`s no track, good area to put a street course though  :daumenhoch:

Dont forget Eric steel doing 540's in 84 at Jess's ramp in high gate and Dominguez was doing them at about 9 feet in 88 and had pulled them at Del Mar and pipeline 3 or 4 years earlier. Our very own Mr Canning was doing them in 86 and so was Mr Griggs but i will pay anyone a fiver if they can name the first person to pull a 360 fakie at a UK competition in the 80's.

Andy Patterson was doing them on the 83 Skyway tour, so he could have learnt them in 82 or before  :daumenhoch:
