A rare bird indeed - Rickman Racing Pro trash find
« on: May 20, 2009, 08:34 PM »
Evening all

Check out what I saved from probable oblivion today. It's a Rickman Pro that I fished out of a mountain of Emmelles and other other assorted low-rent crap down the local tip. Couldn't quite believe it at first, it's got to be 20+ years since I saw one last. Chris Strong started them off and if memory serves me right they were the standard ride of the Strongs Team. They only made them in small numbers but I recall they were popular amongst the racers due to their classy finish and pukka handling. They were made by TranAm in New Milton who also made MRD's, so that's why there is the obvious similarities between the two (Reynolds 531, braised joints, etc). All the parts on it including the non-original forks are bin fodder with the exception of an arrow straight black Araya 7X and a nice 177mm Sugino GT crank, but to be honest I only snatched it up because of the frame and it's spot-on condition - drop-outs look perfect and there's no dings or dents anywhere. Enjoy!  :daumenhoch:

More pics as requested. It's just dawned on me that the bars are almost certainly Rickman too, going on the identical looking ones in Firebird's ad...

...and the stem's called an invader. I've never seen one before. It's a bit like a cross between a squared-off Pro Neck clamp on a Burner stylee SR base.

a mate had one in electric blue bitd.

dunno about the bars tho, wouldn't they be brazed like the frame if they were rickman?

Cool find, those forks look familar though so I wouldn't be in a hurry to bin them.  They look like they might be Tioga forks  :daumenhoch:.

Nice find...I found one in a tip a few years back but it was bent to fook. I gave it to Bill or Dave to use as a booby prize for something but don't think it ever got dished out. Might be worth shooting them a PM to see if it's still about and if the forks were any good.
