94 GT Pro Series Team - FINISHED
« on: June 16, 2009, 06:48 PM »
After finally getting all the bits together to complete this mainly survivor build, it's starting to take shape after I picked up the frame in the States almost 2 years ago. It's been a frustrating process at times but I've starting to feel excited now that it's all being bolted together. Here's how it started:

After some serious polishing the chrome started to look deep again:

Finding mid school bits is a heck of a lot more difficult than OS ones but slowly slowly you catch the monkey. Moley pointed me in the right direction a couple times:

This evening I added the correct era GT Profile cranks & oval crossbar Pro handlebars to the GT Epoch headset by Tein Hein. I had to use some reducers from Alans to get the 1" headset to fit:

Made some more progress.

GT Sprocket and cranks installed:

Picked up these really nice CNC aluminium cantilever brakes off eBay. Chunky.

Popped in the micro adjust seatpost and outside into the sunshine for some poses:

Rims - SUMO Gold anodised 1.75

Hubs are SR High Flange. Dunno if this is pukka Mid School but they sure are purdy, just look at the gold speckle flakey stuff:

Are these hubs out of place on this build?  ???

Well they arnt Mid-School buddy but I reckon they'd look the nuts on that build :smitten: but then again, i'd try keep the mid-school era feel to it seeing as you've used the Mid Profiles, Jive grips and GT seat etc... :daumenhoch:

Well im no Mid-School expert but to me it looks like the rear is a genuine 90's hub and then the front one looks like its from the 80's... :-\

I'll give Pete Quad a PM, he's a major GT enthusiast :daumenhoch:

94 should be weinmann double wall 32 hole rims with GT AA Pro Tires

But your hubs are okay.  Mohawks aren't used yet!!

Clear GT/Ame grips are like rocking horse shit to find.   But you can get them in black.

The pedals you can get though.

I have a few pairs in 1/2" axles.   If you can find a axle to fit then I'll sort you out a pair.  But they will be a bit scummy.  A good clean and respray of the cages and you'd be sorted.

It depends whether you want to get it to spec or not!!

I personally like your blue scheme.

But if you want it to spec then you'd need

GT-6 Seat.
GT Slight layback with integral seat guts (double bolt style not Single bolt)
GT Caged pedals (parallelogram style)
GT Double Bolt  Seat clamp
Weinmann Rims Double walled with 32 hole GT Superlace hubs.
GT AA Pro Tires
GT logo (Thin) Clear grips made by Ame  (very hard to find.  I've only seen 1 pair and I bought 'em)
GT Bar ends (plastic) Loads on ebay (the grips have no ends on the clear.  Black grips are the same but have ends on 'em)
GT Stem.  (yours isn't correct type)
Dia Compe MX99 brake lever.
Dia Compe 985 Canti brake

Tis looking good as it is!!

It all depends on whether your gonna ride it, show it as spec'd or prefer it custom!

Blue will look good though!!  :daumenhoch:

It looks good as it is!!  :)

But I'd lose the gold wheels as soon as something better comes along!!

Black or silver rims or maybe some nice blue rims might be yummy!!  :daumenhoch:

mmm that's a good idea - perhaps a blue anno one!

I also did some digging on the SUMO rims and discovered they are very much Old School rims - exactly the same as the Araya's, made by the same people, just a different company stamp!
Here's an advert from July 1984:

So it looks like these wheels are out of the equation all together. I have a black wheelset that I think is MS boxed in the loft that I'm going to check out over the weekend.

Thanks for the input guys!
