Polished or Original
« on: May 16, 2009, 03:00 PM »
Noticed the trend on here lately for mirror polishing everything to death, it's kinda what we would have done to everything bitd if we had polishing wheels etc, but I've got a project on the go and can't decide whether to polish everything blingy or try to restore to the original matt/brushed finishes.
What does eveyone else think ?

mmmmmm  ::)

I see your point Al,  ???

I think evryone likes the shiny stuff the best

but a few things spring to mind which are matt finish and should always be

Shimano DX pedals in silver

Renthal bars

Renthal seatposts

Looptail Ripper frames

you know what I mean

would it look cak if you did a mix of both  ???

I like both as long as the original lines are still there. I cant belive the  amount of parts that have been polished to death and lost the character.

BITD I went through a phase of stripping and polishing everything from brake levers, calipers, chainrings, power disks and stems to make it bling; it just seemed the right thing to do!!!  It's horses for courses and sometimes a bit of bling is needed  :daumenhoch: .  Best to try and keep most of the original features though and not over polish everything.  I have parts for a build that are a mix of original finish chrome and polished alloy as well as anodised silver and I think it's a good mix  :).

What Rich said ^^^^^^^^^^^ .

I think as newbies into this scene quite a few of us were blinded by polishing stuff but have come round to more OG finishes . I don't honestly remember loads of self polished stuff bitd anyway , it's just now when peeps are trying to get their builds to stand out . It's a shame really because from polished to sh1t these old parts are either very hard or impossible ! to return to some level of OG finish .

I think if it came originally how it did then it should stay way... don't think people had polished loopy PK's? never seen any photo's of one from BITD.
