This years Charity London Ride.......
« on: May 14, 2009, 09:10 AM »
it seems to have become a bit of an annual event and last years one for MacMillan Cancer support was great as we tagged along to the Freewheel event.

i was speaking to Zippy on Tuesday evening and we think it would be a good idea to tag along again this year, but we would like to do the usual meeting up at Waterloo St......along the embankment up to the GUN pub and then tag along to the freewheel from there like last year......but this time go round and do the whole route with everyone else.

if there was one crititism from last year was that it seemed to end a bit early and just fizzle out.  so this time we want to tag along and do the whole route.

The date will be some time around the end of September i think as that was the time of last years event.

the main reason for my post though was one of What Charity to support?

i was thinking of Whizz kidz who help out terminally ill kids and their families, they take em on holidays to places such as Dysney land for what is literraly their holiday of their short lifetime.

just a thought though and i'm open to ideas from you guys  :daumenhoch:

I'm in whatever the charity.

wouldn't be adverse to a two charity thing cancer & kids but whatever, i'll go with it.

obviously Mr Murray can still use any help we can give him!

I agree Rob, last year we didn't ride far enough for our sponsors money.

We'll need some volunteers to marshal everyone, people who are sure of the route and go at the front back and in the pack to make sure everyone knows the plan and go's the right way to the right places. (for places read "pubs")

see you all there.

I'm in - Brilliant Day last year.

Just a thought - if we are going to do the whole route we should have a pub lined up at the end as that way it will keep everyone going.

I agree, do we need 3 stops?

the Gun, an other and one at the end?

I'm all for beer stops.

there's always the Tesco Express at Trafalgar Square too if you need a top up.

not sure, after that second pub it just seemed to dissolve really didn't it? don't really remember.

we definitely need some more structure to it this year, also last year the parking at the station was shut so worth looking into, we paid some chap on the gate of a private car park £10 I think.

As for charities.... Alzemhiers or Parkinsons (as that is what my dad had) any of those would be good. But that Whizz kids does sound good too  ;)

Agreed! We needt to sort out decent parking or outer london parking with tube into the start. And a definate plan of where we are riding is a good idea as it was all just a bit of a cruise round the pubs last year.

PS. I dont mind drivin again JT :daumenhoch: 4 people and bikes was easy. might be able to squeese another small one in!

Sounds great. I will be up for it  :daumenhoch:

I might make a suggestion of the Downs-Syndrome Association as a charity?  My little brother had downs-syndrome and sadly passed away last July at the age of 25, breaks my heart every day   :'(   Just a suggestion.

Cheers
Ben

All these charities are very worthy .... the one I have said for years I would like to do something for is the cot death society.... They loaned us a monitor when Nicholas stopped breathing as  a baby and he had this attached to him pretty much all the time until he was 1 ... an alarm sounded everytime he stopped breathing for a set amount of time to remind him to breathe again ... It was a very scary time for us and they were ever so supportive and it was all free.  Wouldnt believe it to look at him whizzing around the bmx track now hey  :)

I'm going to get a sealed tin for sponsorship this time and ask people to put money in the tin as last year was really embarrising asking people who had pledged to pay and they never did.

If your going for the end of September please can you remember to avoid the weekend of the Brits ~19/20 September.

Thanks

Sharon xx

They are very worthy causes and it'll be hard trying to choose one? Maybe we should
Do I vote when we've got enough suggestions.

As for the date? Well they haven't released the date of the freewheel event yet...but last year was the
Weekend of the 21st.
