Does anybody know what year the freestyle versions came out, the beefed up arm/22mm bottom bracket type, I'm thinking 1998 but not sure?

didnt they all have a 22mm axle? and was it not the hollow ones that had a slightly beefier outside?

they were first registered with trademark on the cranks in 1995 so round that period id say

Well I think there was a race version as well, I don't know what size b/b they had or when they came out, so if we say normal 22mm powerbites then?

i think the primo race cranks had a fused on spider, similar to old maxy cross or something.

spot on,

the race versions also had a square taper bb fitment, not the clamp-on 22mm

I have seen many sets of powerbites over the years that are non Primo but identical, I had a set of Fitbikeco powerbites.
Does Primo actually manufacture powerbites?
I never liked them they always creeked and the pedal inserts always came loose. too many bolts imo 7 with the sprocket bolt.

Prolite also do their "own" powerbites, they all come from the same factory I think. They don't creak if you assemble them a certain way with a little copperslip on the spindle, they can make some strange noises if they're loose though! My original question was because I'm building a late'ish mid school bike which I'm putting powerbites on, and it got me thinking about when they first came out, I had a set in '99 and they'd been out a while I think.
