I've cleaned some of these up before, went from looking like they'd been in a fire to sparkling new with autosol, used a couple of old t shirts as rags, and I'm not normaly one for polishing stuff

i just use solvol and a rag, they are cast so the finish will not be that shiney anyway, this is how they should look, but i can guarantee you will get sore fingers

Never done any myself but if they are alloy i would get them Glass bead blasted , dont confuse this with normal grit blasting which would leave a coarse finish, the glass particles are alot finer so leave a smoother finish.
In my car resto days i had a RS1600i rocker cover done and various other alloy parts and they came back like new
Maybe speak to a metal finishers just to make sure they are suitable

More of a reason to go down the glass bead blast route, thats the finish you will get ie not polished etc.

Dunno if it would help but a really good scrub with washing up liquid might get them looking better. Any polish left in the rough bits will go black. I often clean up stuff thats been machined like this and it aleays look better afterwards.
