Z-mag dyeing
« on: February 19, 2006, 03:21 PM »
I reckoned that they would never get used in the state they were in, so I got the old Dylon & salt mix out again, and brought these Z-mags back from the dead  :)

They were both in a sh!t state to start with. Both had heavy brake marks from using black blocks on white rims, and also the usual smearing of the decals   ::)

The one above is how they both were. I had already cleaned one, before I decided to go and get my camera

They came up pretty well with a bit of time spent with various cleaning agents, scourers, and wet & dry

Into the deadly dip for a transformation Kat Deeley would be proud of

Looking good after a couple of hours, but I left them in overnight anyway cos it was getting late.

The final result -

Cheers

Guy

I didn't measure the salt, I just put loads in & I used 4 pots of Dylon. Maybe a bit excessive, but I just chucked in what I had  :daumenhoch:

do em black Nana then you can be sure of a decent result

4 tins is best, and you may want to go as hot as you can keep it for the Z rims Tom, i had a bit of trouble getting them to take properly till i went nuts with the heat

oh, and on another point, i tried to dye some brake blocks, and it did not work.

Try bleachin the lilac one first. I reckon whatever colour you dye them, they will turn out different if they start different colours/shades.
