Lordshill BMX track in Southampton
« on: May 04, 2009, 02:01 PM »
Decided to take a stroll down today to see what's left of it.  Back in the Mid 80's it was quite a poor track, very long and hardly any jumps on it. The best part was a table top that went down into a small bomb hole then straight into a left berm.

The club itsef were called the Lordshill leopards.

Whats left then and still pretty much rideable.

Nah mate, that was Southampton's track in West Quay road by the docks. It was where i learnt to drive. It was called the Driver education centre.

Andy I passed what looked like an interesting place to ride between Soton & Lyndhurst - can't recall exactly the road but it was behind some low trees. Any idea?

There's a place called Bartley skatepark on the A326 near to Ashurst which is only a few miles from Lyndhurst. It also has a load of dirt jumps there and you can see it from the main road just behind the trees. I reckon this is what your on about.

If so, the dirt jumps are well rough and quite steep, skateparks okish though, not that i go there as i'd make a right tit of myself.  :-\ :-\

I raced there in the nbmxa south central winter series in 85/86 winter, i qualified for derby at that race, it was a long quick track from what i can remember.
i then moved to southampton in the late 90's for a couple of years and the track was just up the road from my house, it looked knackered then.

Same age as me too and i also rode South Central, if i remember correctly i also qualified for derby but we never went as my Dad was on exercise then (in the Army) and my Mum wouldn't drive up there from Southampton.

I was riding in the 15's i think at the time, people i remember in the region were gary chamol something , He rode for halfords and was 6ft 6" with size 15 feet, used to lean on you all the time to take you out if you could get near him. there was a guy from Bath he rode for redline, i am pretty crap with names.

i had a gt nora cup in chrome, profile cranks etc, i rode in full gt/dyno race kit.

I made it to the semi's at derby, and got taken out by 1 gt factory rider and 2 gt factory support riders in the last corner, i was in 3rd place at the time , so pissed off after.

Guys go the opportunity to build a BMX track in Southampton. Anyone interested let me know? Got some council cash and a location.

I remember Lordshill track. It was sooooo loooong and not any real decent jumps. Was a bit of a waste. Great location.
