A standard brake? Do you mean any old AD990? If so, then yes you can. However, to make the best job of it you need to route the cable through it in the opposite direction, sooo....
Where the clamp is normally, you want to replace that with a pivoting barrel adjuster type thing, and you'll then need a knarp or other nipple clamp type thing to stick onto the end of the cable to hook into the other AD arm.
Failing that, you can go all midschool on it and simply ram the cable outer into the hook ended arm and clamp the inner ont t'other arm. The cable doesn't route properly, but it will work
If you can find a FS990 or a Hombre, they normally have everything in the box you need to do the front brake conversion.
