Can I totally strip a coaster hub?
« on: April 07, 2009, 07:04 PM »
I've got a suntour coaster hub that I am wanting to strip down for some work and wondered if I can fully strip it in order to make this easier.

Any advice?

yes you can, just remember how it came apart, it can pretty much only go back together one way.....

Cheers for that :daumenhoch:

I have managed to get most of it stripped now and have drawn my own diagram on what goes where so I can put it back together but the brake lever is not going nowhere, is that normally the difficult bit?

I take it you mean the brake 'arm' which attaches to the chain stay of the frame? If so then this sits over the inner cone of the hub like a spanner would. You just need to hold it to undo the outer lock nut non drive side & it should just come off of the inner cone/race assy. Few taps with a rubber mallet will shift it if it's stuck :daumenhoch:
