Recolouring Z-Rims???
« on: March 16, 2009, 12:07 PM »
Got some NOS white Z-Rims but thinking about getting them redone in orange for a build, any one ever repainted Z-Rims?

get a big tub, get some multi purpose dye, and get em soaking for a day or so.

do not paint them.

www.fabricdyes.co.uk..you want the multi purpose dye and you obviously need to pics the shade you want.

i'd get 2 or 3 tins of the stuff to give it a good colour and a bit of salt...

do a search on here if your unsure, but it works a treat. :daumenhoch:

ride on z rims that have been sprayed and it will crack off pretty quick

and dying white to orannge will work , BUT your unlikely to get the correct shade

best bet is to bleach the white ones and swap them for someone with orange ones

show only!!!  it wont crack off, because like dye, the paint soaks in a bit, and i prepped them right,  but it will obviously wear off though on the brakes, these where very well used mike buff ones, so i have saved them anyhow, and how often do yellow zeds come up, dont think i have ever seen them....

i reckon finding a pan big enough to fit rims and doing it on the stove will get them dyed good and proper, i did a addicks seatclamp and that was rock hard nylon and took ages in a simmering pot, but it's mint as fook now. heat seems to be the key to a good strong even colour on difficult stuff.

so they need dyeing then.

painting zrims might look good, but they can never be ridden on without fooking them up, so i reckon a fairly pointless exercise.

dye em.

i said.

dye them!
