odyssey evolver

My odyssey evolver wont spring back, they seem to stick slightly on the mounting posts? Any ideas on what to do? Is this a common problem?

Cheers

i had this. my problem was caused by me overtightening the springs. when i got the springs out the coil had gone egg shaped and was causing the brake to stick to the frame.

i had to hammer the brake off the frame, replaced the springs with the spare set that the evolver came with and stuck it all back together with loads of grease. i also sanded the brake lugs.

oberonspacefruits does that
its like it's too thick for the lugs

i had a brake that did that before once - a shimano XCE (i think it was) on the back of a haro shredder. we got the grinder on the arms and shaved them a little.

you aint gonna want to grind your evolver.

best bet is try a different brake. a dia compe 990 is pretty cheap. or a tektro one

Whoow :)

what did you grind? I thought just a light sand on the mounting posts might do the trick? Because they seem sticky without any tension on the spring at all?

on the old haro the arms themselves were too thick

if your lugs are tight, probably best if you sand them a little - but before you do, try another brake on them. if they are fine, then the oddy is not meant to be

check the lugs havent mushroomed from being oxed up too tight!

never had to alter the lugs myself

Cheers for you’re help mate…

This is a real bummer..

I’ll have a look tonight… one side springs back its just on the other…. Hopefully a light sand will bring it good…..  :(  I got the evolver as a bit of a treat… i took of the original tektro… which did fit fine but the breaking wasn’t great.... better that it is now thought :( LOL  :'(

have you recently painted your frame?
make sure there's no paint on the bottom of the lugs. not the pillar, the part the brake sits on.
this screws your brakes as i learnt after a powder coat job once.........  sand it off.
 good luck WW

I was just gonna say exactly what WW said, I built one of Andy's bikes and we had this problem, make sure there is no paint on any of the post and use a little grease on there

Cheers for all the help and suggestions…

Just so you know.. I hadn’t painted them.. I don’t know why there was a difference between the tektro ones and these….

Right then, if anyone else gets the problem….  Here’s what you can do… or what I did..

Took the brakes off, and with a fine sand paper sanded the lugs and kept trying the brakes back on until they spun freely… only took a couple of minute each side.. greased up and now they work like a gooden…  :daumenhoch: :daumenhoch:

Still feel slightly spongy.. I have them toeing in.. I think I’ve got them toeing in too much should you only have them toeing in very marginal?

Cheers again for you’re help

clean your chrome rims with neat fairy liquid on a rag then wipe off with clean rag make sure pads clean or you can sand the pad surface a little.  a smooth brick works for me!!
your brake should work like a bull stood in front of you

Make sure you have the silver spring in the correct side and the black in the other also i found the pads work better if you tilt them so they bite the whole rim looks odd but gives better braking :)
