Cool
I tried doing a candy red and put down a silver base coat first then put the red on and it just burned off the undercoat, probably should have used the recommended base coat

the originals were based on a "space print" in one colour. very boring. see romblokes bikie in the museum.

Here's my rider - arrived from the USA looking like a proper bag of shite, but like the Millenium Falcon, she's got it where it counts and is a Haro underneath
Several hours of prep and a couple of coats of plastic primer and topcoat, here she is
Not bad for a $46USD frame chucked in the box with stuff I'd already bought........

Cheers
My brother did it actually - a dab hand with a spray can indeed. I'll be riding this at Creation at the Xmas do, but it's got some black Tuffs on it as the Z's were scary when we were kids, so the extra few stone makes them realllllllly scary!
Oh, the forks are Ammaco, so no need to tell me they're not LG's

That Haro looks sweet spen
Did he finish off with a clear laquer to give it a shine or is that just the final white topcoat ?

Couple of little tips which may be useful re: paint compatibility . . .
I've rattle-canned a few frames over the years and found Halfords/Holts car paint to be the best although as mentioned above it does tend to mark easily. Plastikote gives a lovely finish but is pretty soft until cured so needs to be left a good couple of weeks before building. I've found Hammerite pretty similar to Plastikote but having used it on mtb sus forks I found it was affected by grease and oil (paint became very soft) - a compatible lacquer over the top would probably prevent that. Lastly, I found out the hard way this week that Plastikote and Halfords spray are not compatible
. Flatted the white powder coat on my newly acquired Dirt Bike frame and gave a couple of coats of pink Plastikote before overspraying with Halfords Volkswagen orange (the intention being to recreate the hot rod orange my mtb). Test patch inside the dropouts was fine but when I came to do the full frame, cue a rather wrinkly paint finish
Anyway, thanks to the snow and a couple of days off work (I work in a school - health and safety is great), out came the wet and dry again and a couple of coats later it's
looking pretty good
- ready for lacquer this weekend then an exercise in extreme patience before it's built up.
Edit: Another quick tip - check your lacquer is compatible with your decals before spraying
My headtube decal just decided to shrivel like a dried prune after the thinnest of coats - fortunately I was able to whip it off once it was touch dry, before the final coat.
That Quad looks fantastic - what a finish
Did you use Halfords spray? (I'm guessing so by the cans in the pic)
