GT Coaster Hub internals ????
« on: March 07, 2009, 02:28 PM »
I'm thinking of fitting a feecoaster to my GT coaster hub. The conversion kit I've seen does a suntour, bendix and shimano conversion (ACS Freecoaster kit).

Does anyone know what make of internals are in a GT Coaster hub ?

Have you got a picture of the hub?  Might be able to tell from the sprocket assembly  :daumenhoch:

I'll take a photo tonight. It's not like the ones you get on skyways - which have the make on the coaster arm - the GT hubs have a GT logo on the coaster arm, but I'll take a shot of the sproket side.

Thanks  :)

Surely if the conversion kit does suntour, bendix and shimano then doesn't the law of averages say it will be one of them three, just been branded GT?

Bru  :daumenhoch:

Checked the ad again, the kit does Suntour and Bendix, but doesn't mention Shimano - sorry my mistake.

I guess it should be one or other of them, but seeing as the coaster arm is branded GT, I wanted to be sure it didn't have some sort of custom internals. I remember the hub was real expensive BITD, loads more than a normal coaster hub, but that may have just been because it was a chromed alloy hub shell rather than a cheap steel one, like the ACS & Suntour hubs. It does look a little different to the coaster hub on my skyways which is a Suntour.

Anyway - here are some photos. Let me know what you make of them....

TBH I'm thinking it's a Bendix from the shape of the anchor arm but can't be sure; only way to tell would be to take the hub apart which is not a huge job and should only take you 15 mins or so.

Ok - I'll give it a go. I'll let you know what I find !

Sorry - I decided not to fit a freecoaster in the end.

I got another set of wheels instead, and restored the GT hub (cosmetically only).

I didn't need to take it apart and it runs fine.
