mid bb bearings help!
« on: March 06, 2009, 05:04 PM »
hi.

the bearings on my 2hip are totally gone! it runs a mid-bb looseball design. i went down my local bike shop to get some and he said he's rang up 7 different places in the bristol area and nobody does them what so ever! so now im really p*ssed off, only had the bike what a month and a half and the bearings go! so what do i do? was thinking of get a FIT bike co. sealed mid bb for £15 new but really want some new looseballs... does anyone no where i can get them or am i having to go down the option of getting the sealled bb?

thanks zak

But wont he need a new spindle to run sealed bearings?

not always i no of a few bikes that use a non threaded axle but still have caged/loose bearings just depends on the cranks.

ok bad news. the axle is threaded so it looks like no new sealed bb... but i can put my Primo Hollowbite crank set on but it has a 22mm axle. now my standard cranks are 19mm i think! so the question is will it fit and will any mid bb sealed bearings work?? :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

well i have the primo bearings and they're clever as they're like 2 bearings into one. one size is US BB and i dont know the other size? is it euro or mid????????

A mid BB is normally just a US BB without the cups :daumenhoch:

Euro BB's are the threaded ones and the other common one is the Spanish; not sure what the spanish one is about though :-\

if the axle is 19mm just get the threaded bit machined down as i did it to me old haro cranks so i could run profile bearings
worked a treat

Just got a reply from Kink, the cranks on the Kicker can be converted to sealed but I would need a new spindle. They do the conversion kit for $30, includes bearings and spindle.
